When do you test after HCG injection? Also posted on TTCAL

Hi girls. I posted this on TTCAL as well but they thought you girls might have better insight.

This is my first cycle with Clomid and HCG injections. RE told me to do HCG injections on the 3rd,6th and 8th day after O. I had a positive O on monday so started the injections yesterday. Based on FF my period is suppose to come around the 22nd but RE said not to test till 7 days after the last injection because of false positives which I understand but that would put me on the 25 to start testing.

Any ladies who have done HSG injections after O have any thoughts? Does AF arrive later than expected? What day did you start testing?

I've never done hCG after O, just for trigger. But I always tested every day starting the day after the hCG trigger until I got a negative test (using ICs, otherwise you would go broke spending $$$ on HPTs). Then I knew if I got a positive later, it was real.

I was told to wait 14 days after trigger to test, otherwise you could get a false positive. The hCG was always gone by 5 days after trigger for me, but it varies a lot between women. It also depends on the dose. I wouldn't trust a positive any sooner than 7 days after your last hCG injection, unless you tested out the hCG and knew you had a negative test between the last injection and your positive.

It depends on the dosage.  7 days after the last dose sounds about right. You can test it out to be sure. That's the problem with HCG booster shots because they really push your testing date far ahead.

You can calculate the half life based on dosage. The half life is about 33 hrs, but I would use 36 to be safe (and it's easier).

Thanks girls. They are only putting me on 1cc (100 units) I had to test it out last night to see if it showed positive which it did so I may keep testing it out but since I have two more injections to do.

 Im starting to wonder why RE did this after O since nobody has really ever been on it from what I've seen.

I am doing Letrozole on cd 3 and 2000iu of hcg on 3,5,7 and 9 days past O.   This is my 4th month doing this.   My LP on hcg has been 15, 17 & 18 days.  Definitely late for me.  Without hcg for progesterone support my normal is about 10-12 days.

I get impatient every month and start testing as 14 dpo.  I stop seeing a postive around 16 dpo so that's about 7 days past my last injection.   In March I had a lap and had blood drawn on CD 2 and my hcg was at 6 (9 days past my last injection).  Surgery was 4 days later, they retested my hcg and it was down to 3.    Maybe I just have slow metabolism, but obviously a home test wouldn't detect those low levels anyway.

I've done 2 cycles with an HCG injection (10,000 units).  Both times it has been between 11 & 12DPO before I get a - HPT.

If you don't mind my asking, what is the purpose of doing multiple, smaller shots after O?

Eags, In my case luteal phase hcg is to naturally increase my E2 and P4 levels.  Both tend to be low unmedicated.   Unmedicated my 7 DPO P4 is around 8 (they like it to be above 15) with hcg my P4 has been coming in around 26.   My progesterone drop off dramatically after 7 dpo so the multiple hcgs kept my levels high enough incase something might be trying to implant.  I have endometriomsis, plus I'm AMA so my hormones are all over the place.

It's a pretty common treatment for LPD with Naprotechnology Drs.
