I know it will be all trial and error once baby comes, but please tell me where in your house you plan to have baby sleep at night for the first few months. Also, what, specifically, will they be sleeping in? ( I don't mean clothes. I mean bassinet, crib, rock and play, playyard, co-sleeper, etc.). Please be specific with brand and such. I am struggling trying to figure this out, and I need some advice/opinions.
Thank you!!!!
Re: Please tell me....
The plan is that little turtle will be in our room in a bassinet. (I don't know the specifics of what kind it is...we got it from a consignment shop.)
This plan will most likely change when DH has to go back to work and needs at least seven hours of sleep to function. Our back-up plan in is our guest bed with me or in the bassinet in the guest room with me in that bed. Our bed is too soft and low to the ground (we have dogs that sleep in our room) for me to feel comfortable sleeping with LO in there.

With our daughter she slept in our pack n play next to the bed for the first month or so. We put her on my side because I was nursing. After a while when we wanted to transition her back into her crib we put the pack n play at the end of our bed for a few weeks, then moved her into her room.
It just made me feel better having her right next to the bed with us. She wasn't *in* bed with us, but pretty much just as close.
For DD, she was in a crib (IKEA) in her own room from about day 3. We slept with her the first couple of nights (in our bed) because we were so afraid to let her out of our sights. But, she was such a loud sleeper that it was keeping DH and I up all night so we put her in her own bed.
For this baby, since we only have a 3 bedroom house, and the baby's room is also the spare room, and since we're having family staying with us pretty much from May until August, she will be sleeping in a basinnet (jolly jumper moses basket with stand) in our room until all visitors are gone.

Ditto!
The nursery door is pretty much adjacent to our bedroom door. So its not a far walk. Plus we have as my husband calls surveilence camaras in his room so we will have a close eye on him.
I am a super light sleeper and I just know if he is in our room I wont sleep bc everytime he took a breathe I would wake up.
Our first slept with us in our bedroom, inches away from me, in the Fisher Price Rock-N-Play. We did this for about 3, possibly 4 but I don't really remember months and then put him in his crib. We're doing this again for baby #2.
I exclusively breastfed my first (well, he only got breast milk I should say -- he had some serious latching issues so I was pumping a lot) so it was nice to have him in the same room because even if he didn't latch properly I always tried to bring him to the breast first before I gave him pumped milk. He was a remarkable sleeper from the beginning (whenever he ate at night he would usually go back to sleep immediately and was a much better eater at night so it didn't take as long as daytime feedings) but even so it was nice to have him right there.
I also loved the RNP so that's why we're using it again. We've moved from an apartment to a house since our first baby so I'm even considering buying another one so we don't have to lug it up and downstairs (even though it's super portable).
We will have him in our bedroom for the first few months, and he will be sleeping in this:

DS2 (like DS1) will sleep in a bassinet (not sure of the brand, but I think it's from JCPenny) next to our bed so I can easily breastfeed him. We'll set up a changing pad on our dresser so DH can change him quickly in our room in the middle of the night.
We'll also have the pack n play set up downstairs for him to nap in for the first few weeks since he will wake up frequently (and even if I have a VBAC, I probably won't want to go up and down the stairs all the time). After he starts napping more regularly, we'll put him down for naps in the crib in the nursery.
He will be in a Moses Basket on a Jolly Jumper rocking stand next to my bed. We are moving when he is 2 months old, so I didn't even bother setting up the crib. We're also taking off for a month long camping trip right after we move, so I want him to be used to the moses basket because that is probably what he'll be sleeping in for the trip (we're tent camping for the month, so this seems the best option).
We co-slept with DD. She still spends most nights in our room and I don't feel comfortable or safe trying to co-sleep with the new baby if our bed is already full. But, he will be next to me or DH is some fashion until he is ready to be on his own.
He will be sleeping in a cradle that my grandfather built for me when I was born. My younger brothers and older son slept in it as well. It will be right next to our bed until he transitions to his crib probably around 8 weeks.
My baby will have a bassinet I think it is a first years brand. I paid around $120 for it 4 years ago from target. It lights up and vibrates plays music. I know all that stuff isnt necessary but the FTM in me when I bought it for my first son wanted it. He also liked that there were little stuffed animal like mobile thing hanging for him to stare at.
Once baby outgrows that he will move to a pack in play next to my bed. We bought a graco one that just has the top bassinet insert. No changing table or anything fancy.
Once baby is sleeping well through the night (at least 6 months of age) we will move him into a crib in DS1s room. With my first son he had bumper pads. Well my sister gave me a very long lecture and freak out so now I have agreed not to use them. So he will just have a fitted sheet in there with possibly one of those breathable bumpers, and a light blanket.
LO will be sleeping in her Graco Stanton crib in her nursery from day 1. I want her to associate her crib with sleepy time right off the bat and not have to go through a transition in sleeping arrangements at 3 months.
Also, we have 2 cats that are not allowed in the nursery, so I feel that is the best location for her.
With DS we broke every rule there is and did not go by our original plan AT ALL!
B/c he was a preemie we had to wake him up to eat every 3 hours b/c otherwise he'd just keep sleeping and we needed to pack the calories in (doctor's order, not our decision). Once we didn't have to wake him up, he actually woke up himself every 3 hours for the first FOUR months! So I took the day shift and nursed him and DH did the midnight and 3am feeding with pumped BM or formula. So there was never really a long period of sleeping. Most times after I nursed him we'd both doze off for a nap on the couch or in the rocking chair. I think during the night feedings DH use to put him on the couch next to him. Once he slept longer we had him in our room in a bassinet until he outgrew it at 7/8 months. Then into the crib in his room. He had no problem at all transitioning into the crib in his room, in fact he slept better!! i wish I had known that sooner, lol! So hopefully this LO will be full term and have a more "normal" sleep pattern and go right into the crib in his/her room.
My plan is for baby to sleep in our room in the Rock N Play. I would LIKE to also have some naps each day in the crib, just so baby is used to that.
However, I am worried that between my DH's snoring (and ability to fall asleep in an instant) & the baby needing to be fed every 2 hours, I might end up sleeping in the guest room, or on a couch, with baby in the Rock N Play.
PS. I have this Rock N Play.
4/25/12 ~ Our angel, Persephone James, is here!
We're going to be doing the crib with a firm mattress from day 1. Crib is an Athena Daphne Convertible Crib/Dresser/Changer in one & mattress is Sealy Natural Rest Crib Mattress (firm).
Our bedroom is right next to the nursery & we'll have a video monitor.
We have a Graco pack n play in our room with the newborn napper; we also have a fisher price rock n play. If she likes those she will sleep there.
DS didn't really like to sleep in either--nor his crib. So we bedshared, and he slept in my right arm, I slept in the middle--so DH wasn't near him and couldn't roll over or anything. DS really decided when he wanted to be moved--at about 4 months he wouldn't STTN any longer so we moved his crib into our room (because he hated the PNP) and slept in there since.
He still hates and will not sleep in our bed now.

Our first slept in the bassinet in the pack 'n play in our room near the bed for the first week and a half or so. We slept horrible because every little noise she made made us jump, and that in turn disturbed her. We had her in our room more for my convenience in nursing.
Once we moved her to her crib in her own room, we ALL slept better. In fact, she started STTN at 3 1/2 weeks old.
We had a white noise machine ($20 from Walmart, set it to "ocean") that we started using shortly after we moved her in her room. She still uses it to this day. We bought an identical one for number 2 in hopes that this one will sleep like a champ.
We could never co-sleep. I am too light of a sleeper, and my husband sleepwalks. We're both pillow and cover hogs.
We plan to have the babies in Rock n Plays in our room to start. Naps will be in one crib in their room. I am the lightest sleeper ever, so they might end up in their cribs early on.
Sort of related, we have a PNP set up in our living room possibly for naps and/or having a place to set one or both.

Ideally I would have liked something bigger like a PnP but we have no room for it in our apt. This will serve it's purpose for the time being and if down the road I need a bigger play pen, we will cross that bridge when we get there.
