DH got pulled over (and I got to witness it)

DH always teases me about the times that I have gotten pulled over or received a ticket. He has never gotten a ticket and has only been pulled over once--and that was when he was 17 and for blue lights on his windshield wipers. That is, until tonight.

We were going to Native New Yorker for wings (Thursday are 1/2 off wings!) after I got home from work.  On the way out of the neighborhood, DH blew through a stop sign and then went 5 miles over the speed limit through a construction zone (he swears he was going 25 mph though).  About a 1/2 mile from the construction zone, we notice red and blue lights behind us.

When we were able to pull over, the officer asked MH for his license. Oops. He left his at home, but I had mine.  The officer then told DH that he was checking to see if DH was intoxicated but obviously was not.  DH just needed to be more aware that he needed to come to a complete stop.  After that, the officer let us on our way.

I couldn't help smiling all through dinner, because, although I would have had to pay for the ticket if he had gotten one, I finally had something to tease DH about his "impeccable driving" skills.

How many times have you and DH gotten pulled over/ticketed?  Do you tease each other about it?

Re: DH got pulled over (and I got to witness it)

  • Oh, I have been ticketed/pulled over 3 times.

When I was 16, I was speeding home from high school and a motorcycle cop got me for going 41 in a 25mp zone.  I went to traffic school for that.

When I was 22, I was driving the 98 miles from Phoenix to Tucson to go to school.  I had just gotten off the highway and was still in the state of mind where 75mph really wasn't that fast.  I wasn't expecting there to be a radar monitoring speed when I got off the highway, and so I was sent a ticket in the mail for going 10 miles over the speed limit.  Nicely, I was able to get out of it, because they couldn't prove it was me in the car since the car was registered to DH.

When I was 24, I was caught speeding and cutting off an officer. I told the officer that I was speeding, going 60+ in a 45mph zone.  She told me that I had also impeded the flow of traffic (in other words, cut her off).  She wanted to know if I had seen her car.  If I had seen it, I wouldn't have cut her off; it wasn't fair that she was driving a Charger and I was used to seeing the Crown Vics.  Awesomely, I wasn't ticketed for it.

I've been pulled over a handfull of times but never received a ticket.  DH has also never had a ticket.  He was pulled over once when we were first married.  We were on our way to my parents and he was going a good 8-10 mph over the limit.  The officer asked him if he was in a rush or if the speed just "got away from him."  DH answered that his foot must have felt heavy that day and that he'd slow it down.  He got off with a warning.

  • Funny that you mention it... I got a ticket this past Tuesday! It was for running a red light. It was an iffy light- slam on my breaks or try and make it. Well, I didn't make it. I am going to court to try and not get the points. However, I am going to have to go before the judge who was my former colleague before I became a SAHM. How embarrassing!

I have gotten pulled over 5 times in my life and gotten 4 tickets. It is my first ticket in 6 years.  DH has so many more tickets than I do, but he has also gotten many more warnings. He gave me a hard time about this ticket because I gave him a hard time about the same thing when the baby was in the car. In my defense, Liam was at home with daddy and I was by myself.

Ugh... Also the cop wrote the ticket wrong which is going to delay it being entered in te system. He was a Sargent and I could tell doesn't write tickets often.
