Trouble TTC

Looks like a lap may be in my future.

Ugh. So, RE never wanted to do a lap pre-injects like he usually does with patients, since I had a pregnancy. However, I have been having continual bowel problems, and pretty bad spotting after intercourse. Paps have all been negative thus far.

I had pretty major bleeding after sex last night and very thin stools again this morning (sorry, TMI, but they're almost ribbon-like, which I know as a cancer nurse can mean a mass near or in the colon - they've been like this for a few months now) So I called the RE late this morning. He wants me to see my OB ASAP for a repeat pap. But the bottom line is that it also could be fibroids, could be polyps...but with the continuing bowel issues and family history, there's a good chance it could be endo as well. And if it is endo causing the bowel problems, then it would probably be pretty advanced.

I think I'm on my way to a lap. Which could be good...I just didn't want to go through it. I see the OB for an urgent appt next Thursday, which is pretty good, because there's normally several weeks wait to get in with my OB, so they must be concerned as well. I'm surprised RE doesn't want to handle it, but since I am not in active treatment, I guess that's why they are referring to the OB, since the OB would do the surgery anyway.

At least this answers the question of proceeding with IUI. F**k it. I'm done with IUI's. Thank you ladies so much for being so supportive and helpful.

  • Aw, sorry for the bleeding after sex and loose stools.  That has to suck!  Glad you are feeling more comfortable with leaving IUI's behind and moving forward.  And it does sound like a lap is a good idea with what you've been experiencing.  Good luck getting it done and being able to move on with IVF soon!

No, the family history is endo. My mom had a hysterectomy at 32. My sis has a little. My aunt has it as well.

  • Sorry to hear about this.  A lap is definitely your best option right now.  I had bowel issues when I had endo, but since my last lap and loss of left ovary and tube, the endo has not been back.  I do find it interesting they are sending you back to your OB as my RE was the one that did the surgery on me.  I hope you find answers and have a speedy recovery.

  • That sucks, I'm sorry. I was in some serious denial about having endo. But my symptoms are so much better post surgery. Also my intestine was attached to my uterine wall so it had been causing some IBS. It sucks but I feel like I'm all cleaned out now and in the best shape to get pregnant. Think of it as a fresh start to be better prepared for IVF.

I know. I'm disappointed about that. I do remember though back when we discussed a lap even before my pregnancy, that the RE mentioned that my OB would do it. Since I'm not in active treatment, I'm not surprised. Just disappointed. I trust my RE to do surgery on me way more than my OB. He did a great job with my D&C, and the anesthsiologist that works with my RE was amazing as well. First time I've not woken up with vomiting.

  • Sorry hun. I had bowel problems and bleeding after sex and ultimately the worst imaginable cramps after sex with my Endo. A lap isnt too bad honestly and It will be good to have answers. I know lots of girls here have had one but I'd be glad to describe my experience and give you some tips if you want. Feel free to page or pm me about this.  It's only fair since I bug you about chemo all the time ha.  I know this is a scary step but I think it will be worth it  ((hugs)). So sorry you're having a rough time right now

Eta. If it makes you feel any better my gyn did my lap and she did a fantastic job

  • Lurking...

Kelly! I'm so sorry you have to go through all of this. In thinking of you and you're in my prayers. Hope everything goes ok.

  • I am sorry for all the pain and discomfort you are in. I recommend a lap before ivf. I did one just to make sure everything was clear before sending my embies in. Turns out I had polyps and some endo. I know you don't want to go through surgery but it may help your current problem and give you peace of mind moving forward. Good luck sweetie!!!
