C-sections

Anyone not get steri strips?

With my first (emergency) c-section with DD. I had stitches and steri strips over the top of my incision. However with in hours of having them on I broke out in blisters. As the days went on it got worse and worse, by 1 week after I was fighting not to tear open my skin because it itched and hurt so bad. I had to sleep with witch hazel wipes over my incision to be able to fall a sleep. I would have to re apply every time I woke up.

In any case even though I was told not to take them off until they fell off I ended up taking them off after 2 weeks because I could not handle it anymore.

I am having another c-section on May 30 and asked my doctor what the alternative was to them since I had such a bad reaction last time. He told me they just would not put them on.That the plastic surgeons like them on because it makes the scar smaller. I worry about trying anything else that may be stuck on to my skin as I even get this type of reaction from band-aids and other adhesive type of tapes.

Has anyone have something similar happen and use something different the next time? Or not had the steri strips at all?

  • My grandma also has a bad reaction to them. They just don't use them now. She'll cover the scar with a layer of thin gauze just to keep them from rubbing her clothing but it's not a huge deal.

Thank you! I was a little worried about what would happen without them. It did not seem like a big deal to my doctor.

  • im usually allergic to tape & bandaids, so im really glad i didnt get them. i had the dissolvable stitches only. its only been about 4 weeks since my c sec so i dont know how the scar will look long term but i was really happy with how things have gone so far!

  • When I had my c-section I had internal dissolvable stitches. It was amazing. The first day they just had gauze on it to prevent rubbing. Now a little over a year later you can't even see my scar. Plus, I had no problems during healing. I react weird to tapes and such as well, so this worked wonders for me.

Same here, no steri strips. My scar looks great.

No steri strips here either, just internal sutures. I'm not quite three weeks out and my incision is healing beautifully.

  • I did not have steri strips.  My OB used Dermabond and that sealed the incision.  I tthink my scar looks fine.

  • I have crazy reactions to both adhesives and antibiotic ointments. After telling the dr they opted to use dermabond. It was the best thing ever. Nothing to get removed and I didn't have to worry about the stitches getting stuck on clothing. I highly recommend it.

Ditto.  Even though I wound up with an infection (long story but it has to do with the whole situation surrounding my birth not the c-section itself), the whole scar looks the same and it looks fine.
