My husband has done all my injections for the last two cycles. Now for the first time I have to do the trigger myself. At work. I am not looking forward to it and I think I am working myself up for nothing.
For those of you gals that do the shots yourselves- Do you have any tips for me? Where do you think the easiest place will be?
I use to post here years ago but took a TTC break and have been lurking for the last couple months since being back on the wagon. Glad to be back in the game and I am so excited to finally have a mature follicle!
Re: Trigger Shot Anxiety
I too was all worked up about the first trigger shot I had to do. But I got such good positive advice from the ladies on the bump that I was able to do it.
Take a deep breath. Wash the surface where you'll be. Take a breath, prep your needle. Take a deep breath. Use a swab on the area of your belly that you'll do the shot, allow it to dry. Take another breath, close your eyes. Open them and pinch a good section of your belly, under or to the side of your belly button. Don't pinch too hard, just hold it firmly with your non-dominant hand. I usually like to have my back up against a wall or a countertop for stability. Then quickly and without hesitation strike the needle into that pinched skin at a 90? angle. Hit the plunger on the syringe. Breathe. Count to 5 slowly. Keep Breathing. Take the needle out and set it on the counter and you're done.
Sometime I go sit down immediately and just breathe slowly in and out.
You can do it! I promise. Take your time and keep breathing. You'll be so proud when you're done and it will feel like it was nothing.

Everybody is welcome!!!
I don't know if they all come like this but mine was a powder and I had to mix it.... My nurse said it might take a few minutes for the powder to dissolve and it did take almost 10 minutes. So, make sure you give yourself enough time since the timing of the shot is crucial. This might be a dumb question but perhaps you could mix it at your desk? I did wind up taking it 3 minutes late and they said that was fine.
I really did not find it any more painful than the other shots. Just go in fast and you'll be fine!
Best of luck to you!!

Thank you so much for the pep talk ladies! Everything went just fine except I bled a little. I assume that's normal so I am not stressed about it.
Now let's make some babies!
you can do it!!!
i give all my shots myself bc mh is often out of town. the first time i really made much ado about nothing.
i don't even ice and it never leaves a bruise or anything.
i personally like to prep everything and then do the 1, 2, 3 stab... method to prep myself.
; )
good luck!
Praying unceasingly for a miracle. ALL welcome!
YAY! good job! Bleeding a little is normal.
