C-section due to complete placenta previa

They are giving my placenta another 4 weeks to move but i'm most likley going to have a c-section at 37 weeks. Anyone have a c-section due to this?

Re: C-section due to complete placenta previa

  • your placenta still has plenty of time to move. I never had a complete previa, but mine did correct itself in a 3 week period. Why are they only giving you 4 more weeks? I can understand going ahead and scheduling a c-section if you still have a previa in 4 weeks, but won't they check you before doing the surgery to be sure you still have a previa (I know they don't want you going into labor with a previa b/c of the complications it can cause)

Good luck! I did have a c/s for other reasons and it wasn't bad, I'd do it again in a heartbeat:)

I had a c section due to complete previa. My dr said that I had until 36 weeks for it to move and then we would schedule a c section around 39weeks. It never moved and I ended up delivering my daughter at exactly 36 weeks due of preterm labor. The only "complication" I had related to the previa was more blood loss than normal. It wasn't bad enough to require a transfusion, I just had to take iron pills.

Good luck to you! Hope the previa corrects itself.

  • I had a c section due to complete placenta previa with my second baby. It was discovered at 20 weeks and had monthly ultrasounds to check on the status of it. It moved, but not enough to even be cinsidered marginal. A c section was planned at 36 weeks ( I had ds1 naturally at 37 weeks). The c section went off without a hitch. While I wished it would have moved, I'm glad I live at a time that the technology is up to date and both mother and baby can easily survive. Good luck! I hope it moves for you, but if not, it is not the end of the world. The c section was much easier than I expected and am grateful that I have my bundle of joy!

  • I'm in the same boat. I'm due in July, but have been told they won't deliver me (via c-section) past 36-37 weeks. My complete placenta previa was found at 19.5 weeks. I go in every 3 weeks to the high risk OB to monitor it via u/s. (The silver lining to all this is that we get to see our LO fairly often!) The exact middle of the placenta is over my cervix, so I have been told that the odds are very, very low that it will move enough. I was really upset at first, but have come to terms with the c-section and have enough people tell me that it's not all that bad! My biggest fear right now is that something will happen that I'll have to deliver before 36-37 weeks, followed by fear that I'll have a bleed, as that will take me out of work and put me on bed rest. I was told that if I were to then bleed a second time, it'd be hospital bed rest until delivery. I'm on limited activity (work only) and pelvic rest. It sure is difficult to stay put, but I'm trying my best!

Have you been given similar information/restrictions? It's interesting when I read posts online because it seems all doctors "prescribe" different things - i.e. activity levels, etc. - for completes.

So, I don't have any help or advice to offer since I'm also currently going through this, but can offer moral support! :-)

  • i too am in the same boat. due 6-21, am currently 30 weeks. have been watching that placenta since week 12 and it hasn't budged. one more u/s at week 32 to check growth, c-section is scheduled for 37 weeks. have been on pelvic rest since week 12, no exercise except walking and yoga. no heavy lifting, etc. i too was warned if any bleeding it will be bedrest and possibly early delivery.

    good luck!
