What carrier - large chest?

I have a beco butterfly but DS doesn't love it, neither do it, it seems a little odd fitting in the chest. I think it will be great when he's a little bigger and I feel more comfortable doing back carries. I was thinking about a sling or mei tai but didn't know if anyone here could recommend a particular one that works well even with big boobs in the way! I like the idea of being able to nurse in one as well since so far all we've been able to do is the football hold... DS is already almost 16lbs and is getting too long for that. TIA!

  • I love my Ellaroo mei tai.  I have friends who rave about the Babyhawk, too. I've never been able to manage nursing in a carrier, unfortunately.  Big boobs + short waisted + long babies = fail.

Ahh yeah... I wondered how it would work logistically with the bfing.

I'm up for anything... the wraps made me a bit nervous since they seemed more complicated and its taken me a long time to be comfortable with the beco... but I'll try anything!

  • I am 5'1 an H and nurse in a woven.  I can also do a MT but I don't love it.
  • I have big boobs, and love my woven wraps. There's a bit of a learning curve, but they're really flexible to the situation, your child, and your shape.

Like pp I'm big boobed, short waisted, and long of babe so I've never managed nursing in a carrier either.

  • Thanks ladies - is there a particular woven you'd recommend? I wish I could try them on but there isn't anywhere local to me that sells them (that I know of). We have a BRU but their selection is pretty limited to Bjorns and infantino.. they don't even carry ergo's there.

  • You can actually rent them from several different vendors to try out.  I know at Paxbaby.com you can rent it for basically the cost of shipping and try out any carrier/wrap you'd like.  Granolababies.com also has a rental but i believe you have to put down a deposit for the cost of the carrier?  I would strongly recommend trying before buying!
