Baby Names

Finally picked names!!!

We are keeping our names a secret from everyone IRL, but I have to tell someone or I'm going to burst! We are team green so we had to have one of each.

Girl name: Aryn Marie T.

Boy name: Taylor Duane T.

Marie and Duane are mine and DH's middle names which were passed down to us so we wanted to continue the tradition. I'm so happy that we finally have chosen. Dh and I had a good cry together after we picked them which made it even more special. I'm so happy!

Re: Finally picked names!!!

  • How do you pronounce Aryn?  Like Erin?  Or is it more like Arr-inn?

  • Congrats on choosing names!  Both are very nice. :)

I'm about as far along as you & we STILL don't have a name set. Ugghh!

Yes, it is pronounced like Erin. DH's mom's middle name is Aron and we really liked it, but didn't want as masculine a spelling. We toyed around with the idea of Aren, but liked it with a y better. Personal preference.

  • I like them. I think you're right on the Aryn v Aren spelling -- I'd say Aryn like Erin, but Aren like R.N.

  • Thank you LilTexan! It was a fight to the bitter end I'll tell you that. And funny thing was, we decided on a girls name that really wasn't even in contention to be a first name, we had it chosen as a potential middle name. So it is weird how things work sometimes. :) Good luck at picking a name for your LO.

    Girl name: Aryn Marie T.

Because someone will point it out- Aryn is awfully close to Aryan which is... kind of awkward.

    Um. this.

Yeah, I'd definitely change the spelling. Way too close to Aryan. Also, spelling it Aryn just looks like you're trying to be youneek. I know that the Aryn spelling is based off of a family member, but everyone your daughter meets won't know that. If you're not spelling it exactly like your MIL, why not just spell it Erin?

It's a good choice, by the way.

I know I'm going to sound very uneducated here, but I had to look this "Aryan" up on the internet to know what it was in reference to. I have a masters degree and 9+ years of college under my belt and never once heard of this term. Perhaps it is because I'm not a history buff, but I'm pretty certain that no one will deduce  "Aryan" from my potential daughters name. And the term originated circa 1600 with a definition citing "noble family" and nothing to do with Nazis, just for reference.

  • Well I am also no history buff but do know what aryan is in relation to. If it doesn't bother you then I guess keep with it, I thought it was common knowledge but I have a masters of nothing...

Gl with you l and d and congrats on deciding!

Regardless of your Master's, it really is common knowledge. Believe me, no one thinks "noble family" when they hear the term Aryan. Except maybe skinheads. It's not an association I would want for my kid.

  • All I could think was Aryan when I saw your girl name.  I'm honestly shocked that you've never heard that term before.  There was a skinhead couple in the news a few years ago who named their daughter Aryan Nation, if I remember correctly.

  • I would not automatically jump to Aryan from Aryn, though once pointed out I see it.  I still think the name is pretty, and I guess I would talk it over with my husband to see if he thought the spelling should be altered now that it has been pointed out.  I'm pretty sure that Arian Foster probably had a worse time with that association with his name.

  • I've never seen Aryn spelled this way before but some quick online research shows me that it's not that uncommon!

I think it looks pretty...but when I first saw it I thought it would be pronounced Are-in...not Air-in.

I also wouldn't worry about it's closeness to the word Aryan. I never thought of it when I saw Aryn. However, when I see the name Aria, I think of it. The pronunciation does it for me.

But I really like it, on the other hand, so meh. I also like the spelling 'Aeryn,' oddly enough.

I think Aryn spelled that way is pretty.  Never would have associated it with Aryan ever - still won't.  If you like it - go with it.  I don't care for really weird spellings, but I do think sometimes a certain sound goes best with a certain look(spelling).

I2 years ago I found "Jhenna" in one baby name book and that was all it took for me to fall in love with the name.

  • I am shocked you have never heard of Aryan. I don't have a Masters, but it was the first thing I thought of when I saw Aryn. Sorry

  • I think "Aryn" (spelled that way) is great!  I knew a girl named "Arin" and I like it spelled like that, as well.  I, actually, perfer both ways over "Erin".  Taylor is a great name, as well!  Glad you picked your names!
  • Congrats!
