Swimmers?

Me and my LO start our swim class this Saturday.  Does anyone have any tips, advice, suggestions or funny stories for me?  I?m clueless as to how this will go.  If my DS is in size 3 diapers what size swim diapers do I buy?  My biggest fear is that we will have a blowout in the pool and they will have to drain it!  haha!  TIA

Re: Swimmers?

  • When D1 was in size 3 diapers, she wore a Med swim diaper.  There are weights on the packaging and that's what I went by.

Bring an extra towel, one that you don't mind putting on the floor of the locker room.  I don't know if this will be a factor but at our swim club, you can't bring strollers into the locker room, so I'll have to put D2 on the floor.

  • Swim diapers have weight ranges just like regular diapers. He'll probably be in the same size 3 in the swim diapers. Our community pool askes that you use swim diapers and rubber pants under a swim suit. Just FYI, once you're done with pool, change LO back into a regular diaper as soon as possible. They don't absorb pee just like a diaper.

My tip for you is to keep your hair pulled back and don't wear jewlery. You don't want to be looking for you wedding ring while you have to carry LO. I hope you and LO enjoy your class!

  • I used to teach parent/child swim classes, they are so much fun!!  I've been taking DD swimming since 6 weeks, she loves the water and all the action.  Bring extra towel for sure.  I always use the changing pad that came with my diaper bag to change her on, and let her lay on while I changed.  I personally found it a lot easier to bathe her when we got home instead of trying to struggle in the shower or even with the handheld shower.  Trust your teacher, babies can do a lot more than you think!  Have fun!!

FYI: DD is in size 2 diapers and wears small swim diapers, I think those go up to 22 lbs or something.  I know she is still light enough that she doesn't meet the minimum weight on the smallest ones.

  • We just got back from a trip to Hawaii, and I got swim diapers for LO down there. He's in size 3 and the pampers swim box said 3-4, but it covered a wide weight range, that he fit into. We brought them all home and since we went with the 3-4s he'll be able to fit in them for a while. We didn't have any issues with the diapers. No blowouts, but he definately peed a couple times in them and they held up well.

Have fun in the classes, I'm thinking about starting those with LO here too.

  • I just got swim diapers for DD the other day and the smallest one's they have are for 16-26lbs. DD is under 13lbs and they are HUGE on her. I would think all of our LO's would be in small's this summer. My nephew is 3 and uses the large one's so they fit a large range. People say they don't absorb pee but I don't get that because we've used them on my nephew when we ran out of regular diapers and they worked fine..

  • I love my Imse Vimse reusable swim diaper!! Saves a ton of money! I bought two for DS1's second summer and now I'm going to use them for DS2. I usually buy one pack of disposables a summer.

I always go by weight. Just google reusable swim diaper. :)
