Hi,
I found out last Friday that I had another miscarriage. This will be my third. The baby measured on time the week prior at 6 weeks 2 days. The u/s tech saw a heartbeat, but we could not hear the heartbeat. Came in a week later to see 2 sacs... one was empty, the other one that we saw the week prior still measured about 6 wks 2 days... The sac measured at 6 weeks. There was no heartbeat to be seen or heard.
The u/s tech brought in another u/s tech and my OB and all three confirmed a miscarriage since there was no growth and the heart stopped beating.
The doctor prescribed me misoprostol because I did not want to have a D&C. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this b/c I'm feeling kind of like a freak now. I took 3 pills vaginally (600 mcg dose) on Saturday. I only experienced mild cramping.. no bleeding. Per my OB's directions, I took 3 more pills 24 hours later on Sunday. I got more cramping.. still no bleeding. I called the doctor's office and they told me to see what happens and if no bleeding by Tuesday, to contact them.... Monday.. I had no cramping at all and still no bleeding.... Tuesday... no cramping or bleeding, so I call them. My OB prescribes another 2 doses, but this time, taking them orally every 24 hrs. I took three pills orally last night... today... I just have mild cramping.... still no bleeding.. I'm 90% sure tomorrow will be more of the same...
I just feel odd because every messageboard account I can find online, people had bleeding with the first dose within 12 hours. I cannot find much information about it not working at all for people. Then I start second guessing if the babies were actually alive in there... and there is no turning back once you take misoprostol b/c of what it can do to the fetus... I'm scared I will have to have another D&C... which I had one with my first miscarriage... #1 the cost is more than we can afford right now... #2 It took my body 3-4 months to get back on schedule so we could start trying again... When I had a natural m/c, I ovulated like normal the next month.
I go in for my follow-up this Friday and will talk to my OB about my options. Hopefully she will let me wait a week to see if I naturally m/c before I have to have surgery.
Has anyone taken misoprostol and had it not work at all?

Re: Miscarriage at 7 weeks and question about Misoprostol
I'm sorry to hear about your mc...
I took misoprostal to induce mine. I took it orally though...3 of those terrible chalky pills every 3 hours for a total of 3 times. It worked into the start of the second dose with pretty bad cramping and the start of heavy bleeding. I'm not sure about intravaginal though. But I can tell you I ended up in the ER from being scared at how heavily I was bleeding (through maxi pads every 20-30 min). so in the long run, a D&C probably would have been cheaper than the ER visit.
Good luck. I hope it works for you and you start cycling again soon!
I took it with my first 2 losses. The first time I took it and 20 minutes later I was bleeding. No cramps though. I thought for sure it was going to work. But the bleeding never got heavy and just tapered off throughout the day. Its been 2 years so I don't remember it all too clearly but whenever I took my second dose I expected it to do the rest of the work but nothing more happened.
I was rechecked by my OB the following morning. My cervix was closed. They did an ultrasound and determined that it hadn't worked at all.
I opted for a D&C that same morning.
I took it again after my 2nd miscarriage. I'm honestly not sure why but my OB recommended I take it even though we already had a D&C scheduled for the very next day. I'm pretty sure she only gave me half of the dose I took the first time and I only took it once and by mouth...but nothing happened.
I took it a third time about a month after my second miscarriage and D&C because my RE wasn't happy with the rate that my betas were dropping. Again...nothing happened.
I was shocked that it didn't work for me. I remember doing research and it said that like 94% of the time it works! But I'm thinking that study was flawed because there are so many ladies on the bump who have also said it didn't work for them.
I hope that your body cooperates and you don't have to go through surgery. (((hugs)))

I took it vaginally. I had cramping and bleeding after taking it, but I knew it wasn't enough, and in the end it wasn't. (and neither was anything else so far... :-/).
I am so sorry you are going through this.
