Any Suggestions for Natural Pain Management?

The past two days I have a bad headache & coincidentally I slammed my arm into a door and it affected a tendon in my arm that kept waking me up with the pain last night.

Any suggestions on pain management? I do not want to take Tylenol. I already received a mini massage and took a hot shower, but neither worked.

Please, help? :(

Re: Any Suggestions for Natural Pain Management?

  • separate issues, so separate responses.

concerning the headache...are you getting enough water? dehydration can cause headaches. especially in pregnancy, the body needs extra water. if you ate high fibrous foods recently, your body may need extra water.

drink several glasses, and take a bath or shower with a lavender bath salts, then lay down for a while. while you are laying down, do the following exercise:

imagine that your head can open and all of the pressure from the headache slowly escapes and the pain dissipates, almost as though it is being sucked out by a vacuum.

concerning the arm, this is an injury that will take time to heal. you can alternate between hot and cold compresses. try not to use the tendon that is injured in the meantime. you could also try getting a reiki treatment. this will help both afflictions.

  • If you've had a headache that long, it could be sinus related. Chewing gum can help, especially if it has mint. It could also be a mild migraine, in which case...caffeine will nip it in the bud. I'm not sure how you feel about naturally occuring caffeine. A glass of Iced tea should do it. Again, I'm going to say Mint tea. Your body metabolizes the caffeine in tea differently from coffee or soda.

A cold wash cloth across your whole body while under the fan can also help.

Arm...I've had luck with heating pads and showers. But, like PP said, it will take time to heal. You won't be able to get rid of the pain completely.

If it get too bad, do not ignore it. Finding that line is hard. Sometimes, it's better for you and baby to give into a dose of Tylenol than to have your blood pressure skyrocket because you're under stress from the pain...remember, when you're understress, Baby is, too.

  • I had a TERRIBLE headache this weekend, a nap didn't help and neither did Tylenol. But a can of coke kicked it's ass! Of course, tea would be a more natural source of caffeine. But next time I'm skipping the tylenol and going right to the caffeine. I was worried I'd get a withdrawl headache the next day but I didn't.

  • I get really bad early first/second trimester headaches. Seeing a chiropractor made them go away completely. I hope you feel better soon!

Caffeine always helped me, I used to drink an iced coffee when I had a headache and it would be gone pretty fast.

Also I agree with pp just make sure you are getting enough water.
