Single Parents

Starting to get scared...

I left DS's dad and moved to my hometown over a month ago (it was an emergency situation and I had to get out RIGHT NOW).  I'm staying with a friend.  I've had five interviews, and still don't have a job.  I'm starting to panic.  Any ideas on what to do to find something quickly?

  • You can always contact your local workforce commission for help. I'm in a similar situation where I am a newly single mom-to-be. I wasn't working throughout my pregnancy because my XBF made enough to support us. Now that I moved out to a family friend's house, I'm like OH ***, I need a job. I wish the best of luck to you!

  • Be patient if you can. I went on hundreds of interviews. The job I have (and love) I got through a temp agency. It was only supposed to be 2-4 weeks long. Ive been working here 17 months now. They hired me on permanent 6 months after I started.

Temp agencies are a good start. Some companies will start a position as temp and then go from there

  • Maybe try a temp agency.  A lot of times it can lead to full-time work, but even if it doesn't it can help get you through in the mean time until you find something.
