s/o inductions/delivery (long)

Hi ladies! Hope everyone is doing well, and congrats to all the new moms and babies! I lurk a lot and get a lot of helpful information from you all and I appreciate it more then you know....

I just have a few questions. I am 37w2d today and my next appointment on Thursday they will be scheduling me for an induction on Monday the 16th-- I'll be 38w1d at that time. I am having di/di twins and they are both vertex however Baby A is estimated to be a little more then 2 pounds smaller then Baby B and they are going to attempt a vaginal delivery with me at this point... So my question would be have any of you successfully delivered vaginally with Baby B being estimated at 2 lbs bigger?

Also, although one of the doctors in my practice said it was normal, I find this hard to believe. I know that this usually means nothing, however over the past 4 weeks during my internals I have progressed from 1 to 1.5 to 2 cm and 80% effaced. Last night when I was checked I was told I was back to 1cm and 50% effaced... Has this ever happened to anyone, and if it has does this affect induction? I will ask my doc obviously on Thurs, just figured I would see if any of you had experience with any of this.... Thanks for getting through all of this!

  • I can't answer, but I am curious to hear the responses. As of my growth scan yesterday, baby A is 2 pounds smaller than baby B as well.

  • I was induced at exactly 38 weeks because my MFM thought there was a 20% discordance between the babies. Baby B was estimated to be 1 pound bigger. It turns out she was only 4 ounces heavier.

I was 100% effaced and a finger tip dilated; I'd been like that for weeks without labor starting on its own. 10 hours after starting Pit, I had two healthy babies.

My delivery was difficult (I experienced a third degree tear; I pushed for 4 hours; the babies were born an hour apart; etc.), but honestly, I wouldn't want to do it any other way.

    Good luck!

Thank you for your response... I am really nervous as I obviously don't know what to expect... I'm glad you are overall happy with how your delivery went-- Congrats on your babies.

  • My babies were only 3 oz and 1/4" different (at their last growth scan they were est. at the same weight) so things went pretty smoothly with my vaginal delivery, even when I ended up needing a breech extraction of baby B at the last minute. Sorry I can't be more help but I hope all goes well for you!

  • I was induced at 37 weeks 2 days...I came in 4CM dialated...From start of pit to delivery of Baby A was 4 hours....the boys were born 8 minutes apart.  No tears or anything....very smooth easy labor and delivery.

Baby A (Cole) was 5lbs 5oz and Baby B (Corbin) was 6lbs 1oz.  We knew Corbin was bigger...so that is why it was key that they were both head down which luckly they were!

  • I'm 2 weeks behind you....both of my babies are head down. Yesterday, Baby A was estimated at 5lbs 12oz and baby B 6lbs 7oz. But, they've had a 20% discordance on my other scans since 30 weeks and baby B (boy) is usually a pound bigger than her (baby A). I am definitely planning & hoping for a vaginal birth.

If Baby B was breech, I'd be more nervous. My OB told me yesterday that she delivered twins earlier in the day and both had been head down but baby B flipped transverse after A delivered, but she easily verted him to vertex and both were delivered vaginally. She said there was about an hour in between the babies.

Ultrasounds can be off-easily by a pound, but maybe even more so. My u/s tech said yesterday that it was getting very hard to get their measurements because they were so crammed in there!

I would talk to your OB about your concerns and see what they say! I talked to my OB yesterday and she really didn't think that Baby B would be bigger than 7lbs at delivery, so she felt pretty confident that I could have a vaginal delivery.

On the cervical checks, were they done by different providers? I think it's kinda subjective & depends on the size of their fingers. My OB called me 1-2cm/60% yesterday. I was checked by a male doc a couple weeks ago and he said Fingertip/60%...but I know his hands/fingers are much larger than my usual female OB.

    Good luck!
