Personally, I don't think brand matters - fabric and layers matter. I have tinytush, which are 4x8x4. They are awesome. I also just described GMD. However, mine were half the price, and on clearance at my local store.
Ditto pp. I guess gmd are nice since there are so many sizes so they can fit better but we just folded down the back part of the waist until LO grew into them. I agree that the layers for where they pee is what's more important. Idk about the two brands you listed we have bumkins and they work well for us.
In my experience, Indian prefolds--regardless of the brand--are superior to Chinese prefolds. I have some GMD and Osocozy and they are the same thickness and I love them both. I have some off-brand Chinese prefolds and they, however, are not even close to the quality that the Indians are.

I use Osocozy and Bummis prefolds (all unbleached organic). We also use GMD workhorse fitteds. The Osocozy prefolds are newborn size and the Bummis are infant size, which is a little bit bigger (they say 8-15 lb). I find all the sizing very confusing especially across brands. I liked have very tiny ones for the beginning, but LO is now a month old and 8lb 11 oz and really hitting the size limit of the newborn prefolds. I think the newborn workhorses will fit for a few more weeks. The Bummis are the softest and seem the highest quality, but all of them work perfectly well and fit our needs.
I don't think it matters either. I ended up getting Imagine smart fit diapers because they are super cheap. They are a layer thinner than GMD in only the NB size but less than half the price in all sizes.

Re: question about prefold brands
I've heard them mentioned plenty of times.

I don't get the hype.
