Possible to get pregnant w/o ovulation?

Hey all -

I can't seem to get a stable answer for this. My cycle is pretty normal. My last period was March 18 and I am pretty sure my luteal phase is 14 days long, making my ovulation date April 1. DH and I could not begin conceiving then because of a business trip, but we had unprotected sex yesterday. Is it possible that I could have conceived last night when my ovulation date is long gone and my period is due in the coming week?

You guys are the best advise-givers so thank you to all who reply!

Re: Possible to get pregnant w/o ovulation?

  • I'm not 100% positive I ovulated then but if the signs of ovulation is extra white fluid than usual, then yep I'm pretty sure I ovulated around the 1st.

Oh well -- here's to hoping! and if not, we shall resume trying again around the 26th-1st

  • OMG no, you can not get pregnant except for the four days before you ovulate,  the day you ovulate,  or the day after.

The reason is the egg you release only lives for 24 hours (there for day of ovulation and day after) and sperm can live up to five days (thus four days prior to ovulation).

Go hang out over on Trying to Get pregnant board and  go to a library to get the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" so you can learn about your body.  And sign up on line at fertility friend (dot) com so you can track you cycles (period, and cervical mucus).
