Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What would you do?

DD is 6 1/2 months old.  Her typical "routine" is waking up between 6:30-7, with 3 naps per day with her awake time around 2 1/2-3 hours.  Usually one of the first 2 naps is about an hour and a half, and the other 2 naps are more like 45 minutes.  We do bath at 6:45 and bed by 7.  She has 1 consistent wakeup to eat between 4-5 AM.

Today, DD took two 20 minute naps, and one 40 minute nap.  By 5:00, she was SO fussy because she was tired.  She was rubbing her eyes and obviously sleepy- I have no idea why her naps were so short- nothing was different about today than any other day.  My question is: in this situation, would you put your LO to bed early and risk an extremely early wakeup which will probably throw off tomorrow, or deal with the fussing and keep him/her on the normal routine?

Re: What would you do?

  • I just put her to bed. A crabby tired baby makes me more crazy than an early wakeup call. :)

However, no matter early or late bedtime my LO still gets up at the same time no matter what.

  • I always try for a short nap rather than a super early bedtime.  Personally, I'm just no good to anyone at 5am, lol!  So I try for a short (30-45 minute nap) and then try to keep my LO awake for at least two hours before she goes to bed for the night.  For me, I'd rather deal with her  semi-cranky in the evening (even though it sucks!) than start the day super early.
