Our LO has been in cloth since about 2 weeks (she is almost 8 weeks now) and hasnt had a rash after that point (she got 1 in sposies) and we use Tots bots during the night (she will sleep 4-6 hour stetches) and then Bum Genius during day.
She has developed a pretty intense diaper rash today like to the point she was cranky and crying even during her favorite time of the day- shower time. We finally decided to put her in sposies for tonight so we could use butt paste to help clear it up.
What can we do to be able to go back to our cloth?
Re: Diaper rash help
What does her rash look like?
My son is allergic to disposables, so if I have to use a non-CD-safe cream, I just use fleece fabric remnants cut into strips. There are also plenty of CD safe creams available.
This is what I would do.
1) treat with coconut oil, you can get it from most health food stores and its CD safe so no worries about build up. It will keep moisture from getting to the skin and causing the rash to continue to get worse. It may be in a solid form if its colder or liquid if its warmer but either way it will work wonders.
2) strip your diapers, its on the BumGenius website how to do it
I would also say let the little bum meet fresh air as much as you can. That will really help too.
Ditto on the air time and coconut oil. Also, after a BM, just dab with wipes (if you're using disposables rinse out the detergent in them as that can aggravate the rash more) and rinse out the bum in the sink with water. Then air time.
If the rash doesn't start looking better, you might want to get it checked out for yeast. Then that's another story on getting rid of that devil. Coconut oil is antifungal, so it helps with yeast too. I got a huge tub at Whole Foods for $10 and haven't made a dent in it yet (had it a month)
Ditto this. Also if you are noticing red dots at all, the rash has probably turned into a yeast rash.
Diaper free time and baking soda baths are two things that really help to clear up the rashes. If the rash is really bad I will use fleece liners with some cream with zinc oxide to help heal everything. Just wash those liners separately with towels or something.

I use CA baby for bad rashes. Method baby and Thirsties Booty Love are others I have, but the Thirsties is mainly olive oil - I will be switching to organic coconut oil when it's done.
Tea tree oil is also a natural antifungal - you can warm coconut oil in the microwave, add a few drops of tea tree oil, and let it re-solidify. I like that CA baby contains TTO, and it's a zinc oxide base. But honestly, when his rash is really bad, I use triple paste with fleece liners.
I would probably bleach your diapers just to be on the safe side, with grapefruit seed extract in the rinse. That will make sure that if it is yeast, you won't be reinfecting her with the diapers. I'm fresh off a yeast battle, and the description of red bumps makes me want to crawl in a corner!
