fussing/crying when nursing? EBFs come in...

my lo is a quick nurser. in the past i have had overactive letdown and oversupply but it balanced out around 4 months. lately, my lo has been pulling off and fussying or crying. I thought she was doing this because she isnt hungry, but then she latches right back on after fussing for a minute. she also kicks her legs A LOT during nursing and its rather frustrating (maybe this is just the age?)

has anyone else dealt with this or know why she may be doing this? is it just the age/wanting to do other things/impatient for letdown?

its frustrating!!

ETA: she already has 2 teeth, is it possible the nursing issues are her getting more? i guess this all started around the time when her first tooth was cutting through, but has gotten worse this past week.

  • My son did this as well and he now has 2 teeth that have finally come through the gums. He also does this when he has to burp. I would try burping her as well. Good luck to you!

  • I'm glad you asked this because C has been doing the same thing a lot recently. Especially the kicking with his legs thing, which I hate btw. The first thing I thought was teething (he already has two teeth as well) so I guess we'll see.

  • My first two guesses were teething and burp.

This. Sometimes a burp will fix things other times we both just suffer through it.

  • It seems like a combination of teething and boredom for G. His second tooth has juuuust broken the surface, so we'll see if he calms down a little. Otherwise, he just acts like he has better things to do Stick out tongue

  • Teething. Also, there are MUCH more interesting things to see and do at this age.

  • LO also does the kicking, flailing, pulling off routine at times. Like PPs said, teething, needing to burp, and boredom can be the culprit. Do you wear a teething necklace or give LO something small to hold onto? This helps DS a lot so when he's bored he'll just fiddle with the teether And when he's teething he'll actually pull off to bite down on it a few times then he happily relatches. The other thing might be the flow? Sometimes the letdowns just aren't fast enough for his liking so if he fusses I'll put him on the other boob after a couple minutes.

  • Could be teething.  May also be acid reflux?  Mila had this when she was younger and a low dose of Zantac kicked it.

  • DD started doing that around 2m.  Pedi and everyone else said it was probably gas.  Tried gas drops and gripe water and they didn't help.  I just dealt with it and tried to get her to eat with distraction (running the vacuum).  It kinda worked.  It got really bad around 4.5m so I took her to the Pedi and they dx her with silent acid reflux.  Started her on Zantac and almost immediately there was a huge improvement.

She also does this when she is teething.
