Parents always seem to have an idea of what name their kids will go by, but sometimes it doesn't end up so. My brother's name is Alexander and my dad always tried to call him Alec, but he prefers Alex (and I always call him Al).
My name is Allison and I go by that, Al, or Alli.
Just interested in what name everyone else goes by and if it what your parents called you when you were young, or if you have eventually gone by a different nickname?
Re: Your name and nicknames
My name is Sarah, and it's one of those names that just stands on it's own without many obvious nn's. So I am called exactly what my parents intended.
My sisters all go by their original names except one who was named Elizabeth with the intention of calling her by her full name. Now, almost everyone calls her "Liz" even though she actually prefers the full name as my parents intended.
I'm Kerri and the only people that use nicknames for me is immediate family.
My brother is Matthew and everyone calls him Matt.
My BFF is Jennifer but has gone by Jen since 6th grade.
I feel like those are obvious nns.
Now my nephew's name is John Alexander. At first BIL/SIL called him by his full name. Then they switched it to just Alexander when he was like 1 or 2. Now he's 5 and they call him Xander.
My name is Lauryn-Elizabeth. I go by Lauryn. That's it.
ETA: My mom goes by Trace, short for Tracey, my dad goes by Rodg, short for Rodger. My sister is Kaitlyn, and aside from a deceased relative has never been called anything but Kaitlyn. The relative called her Kaity-Kate-Kate. But aside from the few years when she wanted to be called Michelle (her middle name, it was less common than Kaitlyn) she's always gone by her proper name.
I guess we're just not big on NNs

Everyone welcome!
I get called J, Jazz, Spazmin &Jazmanian Devil (when I was little) and..... Jazzy which is like nails down a chalkboard to me!
My name on my birth certificate is Kelli Marie. Marie is a family middle name, but my mom really wanted my middle name to be Mae, so I was always Kelli Mae as a kid (especially when I was in trouble!).
Kelli often gets shortened to Kel by family and close friends. My mom has always loved French culture and language so I have been Belle to her from day one, even now at 22 years old.
FWIW, My sister Analiese Marie has always gone by Annie or Annie Mae (or Annie Fanny, but she wouldn't admit to that). She was the purple sister.
My other sister is Virginia Leigh. She went by Ginny or Ginny Lou until MS, when she switched to Virginia. My dad has always called her Dove (her indian name) or Bejahoya (creek for dove). Her friends call her VaJayJay. All our nieces and nephews (step family) call her Ginia, so that's what Sparky will call her too.
My name is Katherine and I go by Kat, unless my sisters are around they call me Kitty. I use to go by Katie but it wasnt very me, or unique but now Kat seems to be a popular nick name too so oh well.
My hubby's name is Jeremiah and everyone calls him Jer.
Dont really think it is what our parents intended but it is what it is. We kinda feel that our nicknames fit us better then our full names, and it makes it really easy to know when the other is mad, or something is wrong cuz instead of our nicknames we use eachothers full names.
Funny you mention Sasha because that's my BIL's nickname that he was given by a Russian friend in college (his name is Alexander) Many of his old college friends still call him that and he also uses it for screen names on games and such.

I'm also an Allison! I went by Allie until I started high school & I've been Allison ever since. That's why I'm a fan of parents giving their kids full name - I'm glad I have the option because I much prefer being called Allison.
My sister was Courtney - went by Court or Coco.

I'm an Erin so I have no obvious nicknames to go by.
On the flip side, DD is Abigail and before she was born we were sure she would be Abby. But as soon as I held her I knew she was an Abigail, not Abby and I've never called her that. DH did a few times but he does Abigail now too and DD will actually correct people sometimes and say 'no just Abigail'.
My Ovulation Chart
I'm Brooke. It doesn't lend itself to shortened NNs, but friends sometimes call me Brookelyn. My mom calls me Boo.
Dh is Daniel - he goes by Dan. His mom sometimes calls him Danny, which is weird. We call each other - almost exclusvely - Buddy
