Who Rx the clomid? Are you seeing an RE? Have you had CD 3 BW, US, and midcycle monitoring? Did they discuss OHSS, or do you know what it is? How many cycles of clomid are they willing to give you? Have you had an HSG?
And Hi!

I tried a round of Clomid and had no response (well a slight response but only a few follies and all well under 10). It was strange because I had back pain and was really crabby so I was sure it was working. However, when they switched me to the injectables it worked pretty good and I had no side effects!!! Good luck to you!!

And Hi!
My NP that I have been going to for 8 yrs; she's been running tests since September (I'm not positive which ones). She is willing to do 3 cycles of clomid, but we are also going to a fertility seminar this week as she has recommended IUI as the most likely option for us.

yikes. seeing someone for 8 years doesn't make them a specialist in the field. pleaseee go to a RE!

We are! That is what the seminar is for tomorrow... we'll have a consult as well. And my NP actually consulted the RE she is referring us to so he's already seen my lab tests, BBT charts, ultrasounds, etc.

You do need to go to a RE. Are you being monitored at all? Its extremely important. Your OB may tell you that cysts and OHSS happen in only 1% of women, but guess what, you could be that 1%. I was and a lot of it was because my OB is not a specialist and was giving me Clomid.
GET MONITORED and see a RE! I agree with PP, just because you've seen this person for 8 years does not make them a specialist. And PLEASE dont say you dont want to ask for a RE because you dont want to hurt their feelings (that is the most ridiculous thing someone can say).
I have done several cycles on clomid, be ready for the rage! I, like many women, didnt get mood swings so much as rage swings haha. And hot flashes like crazy.

Read up on OHSS and ask your NP to refer you to an RE. I love NP's, but unless they're working for an RE they shouldn't be treating you with clomid. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but your NP shouldn't be doing this. Have you had a CD 3 transvag US? Are they planning on doing any later in your cycle?

Yup, had all the tests done. And like I mentioned, my NP consulted the RE prior to writing the Rx, and he was fine with it as well. I have an appt this week for me and my FI to meet with him and we can see if he had any additional suggestions.

My old roommate went to medical school and I'm telling you not to take Clomid right now. YWIA
Don't take it with your NP. Simple as that. Even if she consulted an RE and he approved, it is too risky not to actually be under the care of an RE. If you have an appointment to meet with him anyway, why not just take it under his care?
PCOS with long, irregular cycles First round of Clomid in May 2012= BFP #1, DD born January 2013 BFP #2 in January 2014, DS born September 2014
As everyone else said, you MUST be monitored while on Clomid. By monitoring I mean b/w and u/s throughout your cycle. Other than that, I would suggest taking it at the same time each evening and drinking a lot of water as that can help alleviate some symptoms. Over the 4 cycles that I have taken it I have had some months with practically no s/e and others that were pretty bad. Moodiness, hot flashes and headaches were the most common symptoms that I experienced.
Headaches were a *** - make sure you take tylenol if anything, since ibuprofen can prevent/delay ovulation. you might get a case of the "cries" where you just start crying for no reason and can't stop. drink tons of water. and please, not to sound like a debbie downer, but coming from someone who thought Clomid was the end-all-be-all: think positively, but don't assume it will happen on the first cycle. i hope it does, and i don't mean this as negative, but the first time i tried Clomid i thought "i'll be pregnant next month! this is all i need!" yet i'm still here. just keep yourself positive, hopeful, yet realistic. good luck!!!

This is really spot on. I am on my second month and it was a little easier than the first.
