Although, all of my friends that have gone to the Stampede have had a GREAT time! I hope someone who has been or who lives in Cow-Town responds with the details you are looking for!

I can't tell you anything because I've never been. I've only been to Calgary a handful of times and all but one was work related. No stampede and no Saddledome Are you going?
Sloane99 is probably going to be your best source of info on this one!

well -- you see, Gar.th Br.ooks is performing there July 12. I didnt realize how far Calgary was from me!!! And my 3 college BFFs made a pact to go see him live. I seriously screamed outloud when i read this news on my local country station's webpage.
As someone who grew up in Buffalo, I should probably know that. But I didnt.
So i did some googling, this stampede sounds pretty cool!

if it wasnt so expensive -- yes, i would hop a plane, train, bus, you name it. Shoot, I'd walk. Gar.th Broo.ks is performing at the centennial anniversary at the Stampede.
I wasnt sure what it was until I started googling and I asked here at the same time
The Stampede is on my bucket list. It's one of the biggest events in Canada and one of the biggest in the world as far as rodeos go. That would be a great girls weekend trip!

Born and raised Calgarian checking in - what are you interested in knowing?
This year is the 100th year of the Calgary Stampede and it will be ah-maz-ing. Stampede is a 10 day long party that the whole city participates in, business basically shuts down, everyone wears Western gear and the drinks start flowing at 9AM after free pancake breakfasts all around the downtown.
The Stampede grounds themselves are like a big carnival, rides, food like deep fried oreos, donut bugers and insanely high caloric stuff, there's a casino and acts play on the Coca-Cola stage and Nashville North has the bigger country acts (and huge line-ups to match). The rodeo itself runs every day with the finals on the last day and it's a must-do: there's calf roping, barrel racing, bull riding, etc. The evening usually has the chuckwagon races which I find kind of boring but they're fun to see once.
The Saddledome is on the Stampede Grounds but is just the arena where the Flames play and concerts are etc, by itself it's really not a big deal.
OH, and I would recommend the country bars that the city has to offer if you're looking for a party after hitting up the Grounds. Cowboys is the most famous and gets some decent musical acts there too, along with dancing and the boob shots that have made it famous, but there's also other country bars around town that are fun, you can learn to two-step and all that.

It sound like a whole lot of fun!!!
I read the announcement that Garth would be playing there -- little did I know Calgary was SO far away from MD -- I suppose its like people down assuming that NYC is so close to Buffalo when its like 8 hours away.
Anyhow -- this sounds like an awesome idea for a vacation someday!
