LO is 16 months, breast feeding at bedtime (1-2 at night) and then in the AM. On weekend he will sometimes nurse before his nap or for comfort. At day care he was getting 1 bottle at nap time, but we just weaned from that, and he drinks great from a sippy cup.
I'm not really interested in tandem nursing, so am thinking about when/how to wean DS. I would like him to be weaned at least 2 months before LO comes along (he will be 22 months when LO is born). I can probably distract him enough in the AM and for the comfort nursing, but I'm concerned about the bedtime and naps! He will nurse to sleep still at night.
I have heard that you milk changes when you are around 20 weeks pregnant and he might not like it? Do I wait until then? Give it a few more months and see if he self weans? Or start cutting out the sessions now and hope that in the next 3-4 months we are weaned!?!? I just want to do what will equal the lest crying and stress!!
Any Suggestions???
Re: weaning #1 before #2 comes!?!?
I weaned at about 20 weeks, as well. My son never stopped being interested in nursing, even though I'm pretty sure my milk changed and my supply tanked. The naptime and bedtime ones were the last to go. I agree with PP, it was probably harder on me than him.
I started by moving the nursings further away from sleeping. So, for the bedtime one, we used to do the nursing very last before going into the crib. For about a week before we stopped, I moved the nursing up to being the first thing in the bedtime routine.
The first night of no nursing, he fussed a little, the second night he fussed less, and by the third night, it was forgotten.
Good luck!
