Has anyone had RPL testing?

If you have, can you share your experiences?  What tests were run, how long it took to get results, what you ended up with?  Oh, and if insurance covered anything and/or how much you paid OOP?

TIA

Re: Has anyone had RPL testing?

  • I had RPL, MTHFR and some immune testing done on same day.

I did it first thing in the morning and I needed to be fasting for a couple of the tests.

They took about 20+ vials of blood so have snack and juice ready for afterwards.

It took a couple weeks for all the results to come back.

They found the MTHFR's in my siggy and factor II clotting disorder.

My insurance covered the testing, I went to their approved lab to have it drawn instead of doing at RE's and I was responsible for co-pays.

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

  • I had it done after the c/p from my FET last December.  Off the top of my head, I had genetic karytyping (also on DH), autoimmune disorders, thyroid issues, blood clotting disorders....I believe there were about 15-20 individual tests done.  It took about 2 weeks to get results, but it was also over the Christmas holiday.  I was shocked, but insurance actually covered it.  I actually pushed to have it done, and am so glad I did.  GL hun!

  • DH and I both had RPL done. It was done at my RE's office. They took 20 some vials form me and 8 or so from DH. My insurance was very good about covering all lab work. I don't even think I paid any co-pay. I am super said I don't have it anymore.

I had some issues with my PAI gene. I saw a Hemotologist and they took like 20 more vials.

I had 2 losses and my RE put that I needed the bloodwork, so not sure if that's why they paid.

  • Here is the list of what I had completed:

    Antinuclear antibody w/reflex if positive
    Anticardiolip ab iga/g/m, qn
    antithrombin III
    Beta-2 glycoprotien l ab,g,a,m
    Factor II, DNA analysis
    Factor V Leiden Mutation
    Fibrinogen antigen
    Homocyst(e)ine, plasma
    Lupus anticoagulant panel
    MTHFR
    Prolactin (retest)
    Protein c-functional
    Protein s-functional
    Prothombin time
    TSH+free T4
    Karyotyping

All of the above = MANY vials of blood (20ish).  I think it took about 2-3wks for the results to come back.  Although my old RE didn't relay the results right away (another story).  From all of the tests we found out that I tested positive for Leiden V Factor and that I have a protein S deficiency.

I live in Canada so things work a bit differently up here in terms health care coverage.  Fortunately, provincial health care did cover all costs associated with these tests.

DH also had many tests ran, but the list is on his computer.  His tests were also covered.

I had all this ^^^ testing done last year around this time after my loss/D&C. I actually asked my RE is there was anything wrong with me other than my age. When I called my insurance company they said they would cover all of it at 100% but I ended up with a bill for $650 from the lab.  I think they billed my insurance company for over $3k.

I had a similar experience but all my tests came back normal except they said I was borderline for a clotting disorder (didn't specify). My insurance covered 100% and I had it done at labcorp.
