He doesn't do it all day, just sleeping/watching tv. sometimes in the car. What are u doing about it? My gut reaction is do nothing but my hygenist SIL is urging me to get the hand brace thing...

We're not doing anything. He only gets to be little and have that comfort for such a short time. If he still does it when kindergarten rolls around, then we can talk about it. But for now it doesn't bother me at all.

DS still sucks his thumb.  Our pediatric dentist said that they don't do anything about it unless the kid is still sucking his/her thumb at 5.  He said that a great majority of them stop between 3 and 5.

Our dentist said the same. He said the more you harp on it, the more they cling to it so it is better to let them quit on their own.

My kids are not thumb suckers but I was. I stopped around the age of 5 b/c I was totally embarrassed. My teeth are straight. I agree most kids will eventually grow out of the phase and if not humiliation will force them too.

DD is 27 months, and sucks her thumb while she's falling asleep before nap and bedtime.  We're not doing anything about it.  Pedi says she's fine, dentist says her teeth are fine, so we're leaving it alone.

DS1 is 3.5 and he still sucks it at bedtime, and sometimes in the car or when watchin tv.  When I see him doing it watching tv I ask him to stop, otherwise I just ignore it.
