We used a Baby Bjorn-like carrier with DS & I hated it. It was bulky & cumbersome & didn't offer either of us any sort of support.
I want to find something that's more versatile for DS #2 (arriving in August), but I'm not sure where to start.
I've heard good things about Moby & Mei Tai carriers, but wanted to hear some first-hand accounts...
What carrier do you like? Why do you like it? Is it hot (did I mention baby #2 is coming in August )?
Also...don't know if it's relevant or not, but I'm short (5'4" on a good day).
Thank you so much in advance!
Re: Rec you carrier
I'm 5'0" and about 105 lbs when not PG.
Wraps- I hated the moby. It swamped me. I just ordered a shorter woven wrap (4.1m storchenweige Leo) hoping I will take more to the wrap if it's more manageable. The moby is also HOT.
SSC - I have a beco butterfly and a pikkolo. The beco is too long on me. The pikkolo fits fine. It's my current preferred back carrier.
Ring slings - I LOVE my linen Psling. I can still carry 3 yo DD in it for hours. I have a disc protrusion at L5 and the one shoulder carry doesn't bother me. I've never tried any other RS.
Pouches - I wear hotslings size 1/2. I love pouches for the up/down less than 20 lbs stage. I never found a peanut shell that fit me properly although dh uses one. Pouches are great bc they fold up so small and are relatively cheap.
I have a MT, a Babyhawk, and love it! It's my second, I started with a cheapie and upgraded when I decided that I loved wearing DD. I'm not "short" though and have a longer torso.
The great thing about the MT's is that it's a custom fit every time.
I love it for back carries, I find it super easy to get DD on my back with it. I've tried DH's Ergo and it was SO much harder I gave up!
I've used it from when DD was a week old and we came home from the hospital and still use it today with her, she's 19 pounds at the moment and I use it to take her with me when I go for walks with our dog, she'll hang out and nap in there for about 2 hours with no issue for her or I.
I also have a ring sling, great for quick in and outs but I'm not big on using it for too long, the one sholdure thing isn't so great for me.
I really love my ring sling (I have a sweet pea) and just ordered another one made with mesh from an etsy dealer for the summer.
