If you use the naughty chair discipline method

What do you do when your tot gets out of the chair as soon as you walk away? And do you reset the clock if you keep putting him/her back or just let the clock run? We are desperately trying to discipline our 21 m/o but we are failing. It doesn't help that I'm 35 weeks pregnant and supposed to be "off my feet" as much as possible. We need help.

  • We use the pack and play with no toys in it. It's more of a cool down time, but we dont smile or let her play with anything. Then we talk about why we are in there after a minute, say sorry, hug, kiss, and say I love you. Usually that helps turn the mood around. She would never sit still in a chair right now

  • I would pick somewhere other than a chair. I do time outs with my son but at his age I don't think it's reasonable to expect him to sit perfectly in a chair when he's upset. I do time out son my bed. He can move around the bed but can't get off. He usually lies down and kicks his feet for a couple seconds (maybe 30?) then sits up and waits for me to tell him he's done. I think picking a space rather than a chair might help things.

This.  I let him throw his fit..and calm down before I go to him.  Then we chat about what got him in there, hugs & kisses...and we're back out playing.  With DD(5) and DS1(4) I sit them in a kitchen chair and set the microwave timer for 5 minutes...no talking or moving until they hear the timer.  Then a chat about what got them there...hugs & kisses..then off to play.

  • The PNP will be used by my soon to be newborn. So would the high chair or booster seat be ok? I didn't know if having her in a place where she's restrained would be ok.

  • We tried the chair, but he would not stay in it, and I do not have the patience to keep placing him back on the chair. We now use a pack n play-that way he can't escape!
