baby might be nameless! Help

Im 37 wks & we cant make a decision about names. Our list keeps getting longer & shorter as the days go by. We were loving the name Ethan during our early months. Then we realized the name was super popular. So we came up with new names & we both liked Cole. We havent told anyone or names & arent going to make a 100% decision untill we meet him. At christmas time my mother inlaw mentioned the name Cole & apparantly its a family name. Today she mentioned it again. Now I really don't want to name him that, cuz she will think that she picked it & will hang it over my head untill I die. Argg. Ethan & Cole are only 2 names that we both like equally. We want a name that isnt to popular or too common & cant be short formed.

We also like these names: Parker, Everett, Emmit, Trent, Owen, Jack, Declan, Desmond & Marshall

Hmmm. If you love Cole, I'd say go for it. Is it so bad if your MIL had a "say"? You could always phrase it like, "Yeah, we also really liked Cole and were pleased to hear it has family significance."

I also love the name Everett... Everett Cole sounds nice.

I really like Cole, but I can see where you are coming from with the MIL thing.  It would probably bother me too.  What about Noel?  I LOVE the name Noel and it sounds just like Cole.  Although then your MIL might give you a hard time for NOT picking Cole when choosing such a similar name.  I would stay away from Jack (super popular- like Ethan).  Parker seems trendy to me. Owen is also super popular and gaining momentum.  Emmit spelled that way looks funny and is NMS.  Trent is ok, but a bit dated IMO.  Declan is nice.  The others fine, but nms.

Out of the other names you like, I like: Everett, Desmond, Marshall, Declan and Emmett (spelled like this).

What about: Marshall Ethan, Marshall Desmond, Marshall Everett, Everett Cole, Desmond Everett?

What about Joel instead of Cole? I understand why you're hesitant now with your MIL.

I like Ethan and Cole... I only know one baby Cole IRL. I really think you should go with what you and DH love and not drive yourself crazy worrying about popularity. Good luck!

I like Ethan. If you really like the name, go for it.  Maybe Ethan Cole? I agree with the others, you do not need to drive yourself crazy about popularity. It is a gift you give to him, if you love the name, seriously, use it!

What do you think of Nolan? It sounds like a good combination of Cole and Ethan, if those are two of your favorites. I agree with PPs that you should go with what you really love though, despite popularity or your MIL's suggestion. Ethan and Cole are both really nice names.

I understand where you're coming from though because I am really picky and I probably would scrap a favorite name for those same reasons. Most people wouldn't but I admit I am borderline ridiculous with the naming process. I've been driving my husband crazy with my reasons for nixing names.

If you really like Ethan, I wouldn't let popularity deter you.  It's a great name.

I like Owen and Jack the most. Emmett, Everett, and Marshall are nice. The rest are NMS.

I really like Cole, but if you don't want to use it any longer, I really love Declan and Owen from your other choices.
