~Big Sister (3) and Big Brother (5)~

Good evening ladies!!
We recently moved to Roanoke, VA from Iowa. We loved our first doctor for our son, as she was a wonderful doctor that took a little more of the holistic approach. Now that we are in Roanoke and newly pregnant, we need to find a doctor! I quickly searched online and found a practice that seemed to have rave reviews. However, I have a bad feeling about them. I called to set up our appointment and they let me know that at the first appointment they will be doing an ultrasound. We would prefer not to do an ultrasound until the 6th month, but I was told it was mandatory. I am worried what else will be mandatory and/or what other obstacles we will hit.
I did find one midwife in the area and sent her an email but never received a response.
Do any of you wonderful ladies have any experience with doctors in Roanoke?
Thank you in advance and have a wonderful weekend!!
Re: Roanoke Obgyn?
I don't think requiring an early u/s is out of line, it's probably standard of care required. Did you talk to the doc. Or the front desk. He might be willing to let you skip it II you sign a waiver.
It can be important to have an early u/s to verify that the pregnancy is viable and not ectopic/molar/etc.
An undiagnosed ectopic can lead to rupture and a loss of fertility/infection and so on. It's pretty serious and generally by the time you feel pain it's too late and the damage is done.
Have you looked at this??

The hospital I'm delivering at is on this list as one of the lowest C-sec rates... and I know it's dropped since then. The midwives attached to it are AMAZING... I LOVE it.
I had an u/s at the first appt and another at my 21 week appt. I think ultrasounds are the very least of my worries when it comes to my care. I'm much more concerned with c-sec rates, VBAC policy (even though I won't have one), thoughts on medicated/unmedicated birth, interventions and the presence of doulas. Go to the first appt and if you still don't like it, look for another practice.
