Help! High maintenance sleeper

My 2.5 yr old is fighting sleep and doesn't want to take naps or go to bed. We try to have go to bed at 8 pm every night and he usually sleeps until 7 or 8 am and he takes a 2 hour nap during the day but it takes us about 30 minutes plus to get him to bed and he has a lot of requests like more water, tissue, cover me up etc. any other parents experience this and what did u do about it? I feel like his bed times are good times cuz I can tell he gets tired around this time. Help!

  • Sounds pretty good/normal to me!

  • We saw a sleep lady around last summer , about your LO's age. We moved his bedtime to 9, moved it up gradually by 15 a night. The naps I have , even now, to wake him up at 2 1/2 hours or he fights bedtime. He usually wakes up but there are days he doesn't. If they don't fight bedtime you can let them sleep more at nap time.

  • I don't give in to stall tactics. She has a small cup of water, that she can take sold from in case she says she's thirsty, but with most of her requests, I either say "it's bedtime Tegan, not time for....", kiss her and leave the room. I will cover her up, pat her back, give her one last hug, etc., but I ultimately tell her "I love you, I'll see you in the morning (a few hours if nap time), good night." I've even gone as far as saying that I won't be coming back into the room and then I stick to that, even if she cries. Typically, she's asleep within 5-10 minutes.

We have done this too, even the part about not coming in again, and it does work, but sometimes it's hard with a baby in the next room-I really didn't want him to wake her up!
