When did you change LO's bedtime?

DD's bedtime has always been around 7 and she sleeps untill 7/8. The last several nights we put her down around 7 and she'll talk in there for about an hour before she falls asleep, still waking up 7/8. Naps haven't changed, about 1.5-2 hours a day.

Is DD trying to tell us she should go down later? Thanks for any advice/suggestions!!

  • I don't have any advice to offer but we are experiencing the same thing.  Interested to see what people think.

  • I wouldn't change the time.  I appreciate having the adult time in the evenings and also, her spending time chatting/playing with herself to wind down is a good thing! Also, your kiddo is still pretty young.  Save that later bed time for when she's more like 3 years.

  • DS was having sleep issues last year and went to see a sleep specialist. They had me move his bedtime  to 9pm.

We did it gradually in 15 minute increments, he was going to bed at 730-8pm.  He still goes to bed at 9 and wakes up at 7.

Thank you for saying this. As a SAHM I really need my down time at night, so the idea of a later bedtime is not too appealing right now. I think I'll keep things as they are and see how it goes. I also like the idea that DD is learning how to calm/put herself to sleep.

  • I would keep it at 7 or 7:30 depending on how tired she looks. My dd goes to bed every night around that time, and she gets about 1.5-2 hr nap in the afternoon. Some days she goes to sleep right away, sometimes she talks to herself.
