Pregnant after a Loss

Any Metanx users?

How many tablets are you taking a day?  I have been taking 2, but for another condition (neuropathy) besides MTHFR.  I have an email in to my doctor to ask, but I'm curious if I really need to be taking that much.  Each tablet has 3 mg l-methylfolate (metabolized folic acid) and that should be enough, right?

Re: Any Metanx users?

  • I take 1 metanx/day, plus another 4mg of straight FA, plus whatever is in my PNV.

You can take up to 10mg/day without any adverse consequences.

Just an FYI: if you are taking 2/day, space them out. Take one at night, and one in the morning. The body can only absord/use so much FA at one time, so taking them 10-12 hours apart with help to maximize your exposure to FA.

  • Carolee,

Congratulations on this pregnancy!   The only reason large doses of folic acid are prescribed for women with MTHFR and RPL (usually 4 mg - 10 times a normal dose)is because you cannot properly metabolize synthetic folic acid.  I work with Pamlab, the company that makes Metanx and NeevoDHA.  Metanx contains 3 mg of active L-methylfolate which bypasses the MTHFR mutation is 100% bioavailable for DNA synthesis and repair.  1 Metanx should be more than enough but any excess willl be excreted in the urine.

You are in my prayers Carolee.  After everything you have been through I pray that this will be a happy, healthy and uncomplicated pregnancy.
