Hi Everyone,
I have a 1 year old named Mia Danielle. I am very happy with her name, but I'm wondering about nicknames. Some people call her "Mimi" which I don't love. It's okay, but I wouldn't want it be her "official" nickname. We sometimes jokingly call her "Little M" which turns to "Emmy" (pronounced like "Eh-mee") I prefer that to Mimi.
Do any of you have nickname ideas for this name? Also, have any of you ever informed people of your child's nickname? Or did the nicknames always just emerge organically from what people called them?
Re: Nicknames for Mia Danielle
Some names just don't need a nick name, or at least one based on their name. My DD is Isla , and you just dont need to call her anything for short, but I call her Turkey, because she is one. My other two have Nicknames and go by Edie B and Liv . They are Eden and Olivia.
Nicknames are so highly personal, just like the name itself. Give her one that means something to you, or her.

I agree with the other posters. I think with a short name like Mia you don't need a NN. And just to say my son's name is Connor and I call him Bug. Dunno why but I did it once and it stuck. So go figure.
I prefer no NN for short names, thats why we pick short names to be honest. Im not a fan of NNs. Mia is a reat stand alone name. I usually call my kids something like monkey, babydoll or whatever petname we have for them, but not a NN according to their names.
If you dont like NNs for her, or if they dont work remind people her name is Mia, I do this often with my kids. Its not Finny or Finnster its Finn
I hate NNs. Hate them.
Mia is super short as it is. Why does it need a nickname?

Well, that's not exactly the question. I'm not looking for a long-term permanent kind of nickname. Just something cute for while she's still little.
If you need a rationale for seeking a nickname, it's just that people seem to need to call little ones by some kind of diminuative, especially ending in an "ee" sound. Most people call her "Mimi", and I'm not such a fan. So I was just trying to think of an alternative suggestion to combat that one.
