5K- What is a reasonable amount of time re: training

I'm due in the middle of May, and my friend wants me to do a 5k with her in late July.  I know training for eveyone is different, This is reasonable right?  I can probably do it.

If it makes a difference, while I haven't run in about 2 years, I used to be a runner.  As in, I've done numerous 5ks, a half marathon, was supposed to do the NYC marathon, but got pg with an EDD shortly after the marathon date so I backed out of that.  I haven't run since. :o

Also, Any good training programs/schedules I can look into?  Thanks

  • If you weren't a runner before, I'd say at least 8-10 weeks, just to get stamina up. However, it could be less since you're used to running and just have to get back into it. I was never a runner and ran my first 5k a few years ago. I used an online program called Couch to 5k. (https://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml)

  • I think it also depends on how well you want to do.  If you don't mind running slow/ taking walk breaks it won't take as long.  If you want to try to win it, it will take longer to build up your stamina/ speed again.  I've heard the couch to 5K program that the PP mentioned is really good.  I am running a 5k the beginning of June.  Good Luck!
