Anybody else have a thumb sucker?

Ah, we so do not want DS to suck on his thumb, but he's very persistent.   We're trying to remove his thumb every time he starts and replace it with a sookie.  I'd rather have a sookie addiction than a thumb addiction.  He's not buying it.  The worst is in the car, I can hear him slurping away and can't do anything about it!

 

Thoughts?  Ideas?

Yes I do but It doesnt bother me He doesnt take paci so its ok! but good luck!!

Mine sucks on his hand. I don't think he's figured out how to just get his thumb yet. He's kind of whatever about the pacifier but I'd rather he use the pacifier then his hand/thumb.

Thumb or fist... he doesn't seem to care. He'll take the binky for a little bit but he spits it out then goes back to his hand... if it makes him happy I'm good with it for now. Its a good self soothing tool... and I can't complain because he puts himself to sleep now after having to be rocked/walked to sleep for a couple of months so I figure he'll grow out of the thumb sucking as well

He's only mastered sucking on his fist at this point.

I'm the opposite of most people - I'd rather have him suck his thumb than his hand. My nephew sucked his thumb and my sister had a very easy time "breaking" him of it for the most part. I hate keeping track of those stupid pacis!

I replace DD's thumb with a paci and at night (she sucks on her thumb the most in her sleep) I put those little cotton mittens on her hands so she can't get to her thumb.  I teach kindergarten and have students (and sometimes parents of students) who suck their thumbs. I'd much rather have DD use a paci.

Declan is trying so hard to suck his thumb.  I'd rather he sucked his soother because I clearly remember my mom having to sew mittens onto my brothers pyjama cuffs to break his thumb sucking habit...  On the bright side, he can't lose his thumb in the blankets in the middle of the night.

DD has really mastered getting the thumb in her mouth and not just the fist.  She spreads her fingers apart as far as they'll go and then jams it towards her mouth.  She will not take a pacifier for more than 3 seconds unless I'm holding it in her mouth (which is not the point of a pacifier.) So for now I am okay with the thumb because it's soothing her in a way that I can't replace with anything else.

I am in the same boat as the bolded. DD loves to suck on her hand/wrist/anything she can get near her mouth. Thankfully she takes a pacifier. Must be an equal opportunity sucker (oh dear, I hope that goes away before she is a teenager!).
