how much milk for 2 yr old?

Hi there,

My son still has 7ozs of milk with breakfast, after nap and with dinner.  Lately, he has been eating good size meals too.  Is this normal or is 21 ounces of milk too much milk for a 2 year old.  We still have him on whole milk because he is only 25th percentile but wondering if I should go down to 2% soon..his doc left it up to me.  Thoughts?  Thanks Girls!

  • My DS is a little over 2 y/o.  He's in the 25th percentile for wt, 75th for ht.  Until recently he was getting 3 - 8oz cups a day.  The only reason we cut back is b/c he got really constipated so we cut back on milk, cheese, bananas, and a few other things the pedi recommended we limit.  Now I give him 3-5 1/2 cups a day.

  • My little guy gets 8 oz in the morning and 8 oz at supper.  I am thinking my dr told me no more than 18 oz a day. Really though, if he is still eating well I don't see the harm. I also just moved him to 2%. The only reason I moved him to 2% is because they always have it when I go to the store in the Horizons brand. Unlike the whole!

  • Our pedi said 16-24 oz.  We give skim.
  • We still give 3 7 oz cups a day of whole milk.

  • Ds drinks about 20 oz. a day, and he also eats other dairy products. I don't think it's too much if he's still eating well at mealtimes. We switched to 2% when he turned 2, but he's about the 50th percentile.

  • My dd is 21-month old, and she drinks approximately 15-20 oz of whole milk during the day (for breakfast, lunch, and 2 snack). She is also 25th on wt, and 75th of height. She's going to be on whole milk for a while.
