Hello all! I am 19 weeks pregnant and just had my msAFP test results come back slightly abnormal for spina bifida. Of course my doctor says there isn't any cause for alarm, but I'm going for my Anatomy U/S this monday to confirm if there seems to be any problems. Now my issue is that since recieving this news, my husband and I have been stressed out! We did some research and found that this test is widely inaccurate, with many coming back as false positives, or gestational age being further along than originally thought.
It would just ease my mind to hear if anyone else had to go through something similar to this? We have been so worried this last week. I'm begining to think this msAFP test is more trouble than it's worth
Re: stupid msafp testing
Welcome to the board. Sorry to hear about your test. Elevated msAFP levels can indicate spina bifida as well as other problems. Often if it is a false positive they will continue to watch you more closely to keep an eye on baby's growth as moms with elevated AFP levels are more likely to have babies with growth restriction and have BP problems like pre-eclampsia later on. I think knowing is always better, even if does add some stress.
FX that all is well. Big hug.
