Hi all. I hope it's o.k. to come and ask you all this. A cousin of DH's recently gave birth to twins. They were born at 25 or 26 weeks. Clearly they are in NICU and she's spending a lot of time with them.
She's a single mom doing this all on her own. We unfortunately don't live near her.
We want to do something for her, but I just keep coming up blank. Is there anything that I could send her to help her over the next few months?
While her updates have all been very positive, I know this is a very difficult time for her.
Thanks.
Re: How to help a long distance friend
Sending a care package is always nice. Otherwise, I think sending delivery freezer or ready to eat meals is a great option. People did that for us when DS was in the NICU, and it was nice. I spent most of my waking home at the NICU, or en route, and the last thing I wanted to do was cook or grocery shop. If she's pumping though, it's so important that she eat well.
Another idea is getting a cleaning service to come once or twice (maybe once while babies are in NICU and once before homecoming). I found gestures like this to be very nice.
Lastly, once her babies start wearing clothes in the NICU, send her some preemie sized pajamas (snaps, feet) or onesies with their initials. It is HUGE for NICU moms when LO's get to wear clothes because it makes them feel real and more normal. A friend gave me a set of monogrammed preemie onesies, and it was one of my favorite gifts.
