Natural Birth

Feeling bad for a friend!

I have a friend who is pregnant with her first and is wanting a natural birth. She has said from the beginning that's how she wanted it. Her doctor has seem to be sportive up til now.. She went to the doctor yesterday she is 4 days "over due" and supposedly the baby is over 8 1/2 lbs and the doctor said if she hasn't gone into labor in the next day she will be induced.. She asked the doctor if there is anyways that they start the induction and goes into labor that they let nature take its course and turn the pit off.. The doctor jumped all over her and told her she has no clue about medicine! She wasnt the one practicing medicine and has no clue! She went on to tell her she will not get any sort of metal for doing this so why in the world would you do that and choose to be in pain!!

She is feeling sad and defeated already and is scared of what it will be like with that doctor and shes not even in labor yet!!

Keep her in your thoughts and prayers!! Send labor dust her way!!

  • I guess I'd tell her she doesn't have to show up for the induction if everyting else is ok. I'd also email the doctor the link to the article below.

  • awww T & P going her way, it is so unfortunate that her experience is starting this way. i don't know why doctors are like that sometimes. when i decided to go natural with my children towards the end of labor they asked every 15 min if i wanted an epidural! i said um please stop asking me cause i am afraid i will cave and say yes which is what happened with my first child. hopefully things will go her way and she will have as close as she can to her birth plan

  • Well, good grief!  She wants a medfree birth so why would she have any idea about medicine?  Does OB have some sort of prior engagement that her being overdue is going to interfere with?  Bullying her into falling in line with her preference before she's laboring makes me feel bad for what her birth experience with this doc could be like.  I hope she has some great support with her during her labor!
  • It is called bait and switch- when an OB (or MW) pretend to be supportive of NB early in the pregnancy and then show their true colors at the end.

I personally would be looking for another care provider ASAP.  It is NEVER too late to switch.

*nods* This exactly. 42w is standard, so until she's even at that point, I would be arguing with my OB. 4 days is nothing. The avg FTM delivers around 41w4d when it's spontaneous. Just a bit of advice, he'll pull the "You're putting your baby in danger thing" next.

  • I would switch care providers in a heart beat! But if that's not possible, I would request an Nst and a US to make sure things are ok. As long as the answer is yes to the following question: is mom and baby ok? Then I would avoid inductions. GL to her!
