Preemies

When was your LO's first cold?

I've been sick on & off for a month (I've got some awful upper resp thing & now, pharyngitis) and I'm watching my DD like a hawk for any signs of illness. We JUST got off the O2, I'm terrified that if she gets sick she's going to end up readmitted. So, ease my mind, lol...when did your preemie get their first illness?

Re: When was your LO's first cold?

  • We all had the stomach flu back in January (around my son's first birthday - 9 months adjusted), but he still hasn't had a cold.  My husband and I had colds, but my son never got it.

Are you breastfeeding?  That can certainly protect her from getting sick.

  • C got her first cold at 10 months actual (7 adjusted).  She got it during her 1st week of daycare. :(
  • R actually got her first cold in the NICU. I suppose someone's family member brought it in or something..not sure. Poor thing was so congested and had to be suctioned a lot. After that, she didn't get another cold until 8 months and fortunately hasn't had one since.

  • My son got his first cold just 2 weeks after getting home and it was not too bad.  He did get a bad cold when he was 6 months old and it ended up being bronchiolitis.  They admitted him to hospital for 24 hours and gave him some oxygen.  It was scary to be in the hospital again and once again traumatic.  The first year he got a bunch of colds- he was on 100% breastmilk and vaccinated with Synagis.  This winter, he has not gotten a cold yet!  No synagis and no more breastmilk.  We are lucky.
