Tonsillectomy

If your LO had it done, did their speech get worse before it got better?

DS had his tonsils and adenoids taken out and a new set of tubes put in about 1.5 weeks ago.  Before surgery, he talked all of the time and had a great vocab, but his speech wasn't clear. We knew what he said, though. The past few days, we noticed that his speech is pretty bad.  We cannot understand anything he is saying.  It isn't like he is speaking this way while his throat heals. It's almost as if he is just leaving off letters.  He has his post-op checkup tomorrow and then we are to have him evaluated by a speech therapist, but I was just wondering if any other moms have experienced this....thanks!!

Re: Tonsillectomy

  • DD had both taken out a month before she turned 2 and we couldn't understand her either. The doc said that it was from where the scabs were starting to fall off and that it would be painful and really sore. But after those few weeks she was fine. Hope he gets feeling better soon.
