Ophelie?

I don't love the name Ophelia (names that end in -a feel a little "frilly" IMO) I really like Ophelie but what are your opinions? Do you know any Ophelies?

*We will not be living in the US by the time my first starts school so I'm not particularly worried about how the name goes over in American schools.

  • I don't like Ophelie, or Ophelia. I have a friend with a 10 yr old named Ophelia Peal, and she does actually regret naming her daughter that.

  • I like the way it looks, but I'm not sure how to pronounce it. (Same with Amelie, a variation of Amelia.)

  • I'm still trying to figure out exactly how you would pronounce that.  I prefer Ophelia.

  • i think it is awful
  • Is it pronounced O-FEEL-ee? Or OFE-eh-lee?

I really don't like either. :( An emphasis on "feel-y" sounds creepy and an emphasis on "Ofe" sounds wrong too.

  • Don't like Ophelie at all, and while Ophelia is beautiful, I wouldn't give my child a name known best for being a tragic character. It's a negative connotation, you know?

  • To those who asked, it's o-FAY-lee.

OP, I actually like the name.  However, I think it needs the accent mark to be pronounced correctly.

  • Love Ophelia but Ophelie sounds incomplete and really sticks the feel out there and makes it sound weird to me. Sorry, I don't like it at all.
