Found wound after handling raw chicken

Hey guys! First post on the bump!

I'm making homemade chicken noodle soup tonight, something I am craving terribly. I decided to go the frugal way and buy a fryer chicken to cut up. I cut up the chicken and didn't do the best job ever(my first time). I washed my hands with antibacterial soap and started going about my business(after the chicken had been put in the pot) and noticed I had a small open wound(possibly from a rib bone) on my thumb. Now, I am terribly nervous that I may have gotten some sort of crazy illness. Anyone know how easily it is to get sick from handling raw chicken when you accidentally got a cut/wound? Rather anxious...

Thanks!

  • I'd clean the area again, apply some ointment (like bacitracin or neosporin), and put a bandaid on it.  You'll be fine.

  • Your risk is miniscule.  You cleaned your hands with soap and water afterwards so most likely that took care of any possible problems.  If it bothers you, I'd do like PP suggested and put neosporin and a band-aid on it but otherwise, don't worry.
