okay is this normal when potty training? Today is day 5. For the past 2 days, Nicholas would wake up with a wet overnite (which is fine, I'm not expecting a dry one yet). So I put him on the potty first thing in the morning, but nothing (probably cause he went in his overnite). Okay fine. But he doesn't pee or poop all morning. Monday, he held it in from 8 til 11:30 and peed when we got back from the Pedi's office. yesterday he held it in til about noon and then he proceeded to have a pee and poop accident- even though he had just sat on the potty 5 minutes earlier. He peed last night on the potty once before bed. He woke up with a slightly wet pull up after nap. Today he has not peed at all and he has been drinking so he HAS to have to go right? I even delayed his nap, cause he said he wanted to sit on the potty. Still nothing. Oh and if I tell him it's time to go sit on the Potty (cause he hasn't gone in 6 hours) he says "No I do it later". Not once has he initiated the potty telling me he has to go. He is now down for his nap in a Pull Up and I'm scared how full it's going to be. Is this normal? I mean the first couple of days he peed a million times on the potty and now he will pee twice a day.
Re: Is this normal when PT'ing?
He might be holding it for naptime and nighttime when he know's he'll be back in a pull up. With DS, he wouldn't poop on the potty but would wait until quiet/nap time when he'd be in a pull up to do it. Once I realized this I stopped putting him in a pull up for nap time. I figured nap/quiet time was a short enough amount of time (compared to night time) to hold it. And if he didn't want to hold it, he'd have to go on the potty, which he did. Dropping the naptime pull up was definitely was a big part of getting him to poo on the toilet. Do you think that'd work for him?
It sounds like he's doing ok, though, so I'm sure he'll catch on soon. Do you offer rewards for using the potty? I'm sure he'll eventually realize its more comfortable to go potty when you need to than to hold it, but in the meantime I'd be worried about his bladder/urinary tract health. Good luck!
Thanks. I really don't want to give up. he drinks all day long. I sound like a broken record saying "Where does pee pee and poopy go?" he says "In the potty not in the underwear, not in the bed, not on the floor and not on the rug". I don't know if he's at the stage where he can tell me yet- he hasn't yet. He just sits on it periodically. Today was every 30 minutes-60minutes cause he drank so much this morning that I was sure he had to go. He did go once around 5 a pretty good amount. Hopefully he'll go before bed.
