Dinner time??

Hi Ladies!  What does everyone do with their LO when they are trying to eat dinner?  We have tried putting him in his high chair next to us with his toys, putting him in his bouncer or on the floor for some tummy time but he is never happy when we are eating and needs attention.  Either my hubby or me will hold him while the other eats or else we will wait until after our LO goes to bed and then we end up eating around 9 at night.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: Dinner time??

  • Same situation with us - we usually end up leaving dinner sit for 45 min until it gets nice and cold, then I shovel it in as fast as I can while DH entertains DD then I nurse her before bed at 745 and DH shovels his dinner in.  lol.

I think we are going to try sitting DD at the table with us in her booster seat.  She needs to get used to this routine so I think this is the route we are going to take.

  • We do whatever it takes to eat.  He starts in the high chair with toys.  That lasts long enough for me to cut up my food or eat anything requiring two hands.  Then he sits in my lap or nurses while I eat one handed.  Then I pass him to DH who holds him while I finish eating.  Everyone eats hot food and we all eat together.

  • No suggestions but I'm in the same boat.  :(  We've just been trying to eat with DD at the table with us for a few weeks now, but it's been hit or miss.

On good nights, we try to get DD to sit at the table with us with some toys.  Sometimes it works.  Sometimes it only works for 10 minutes.  As long as her fuss is mild, we try to distract her and talk to her so she'll get used to sitting at the table with us.

If she's too fussy to even sit in her chair, we either try to keep her at the table with us (DH or I will hold her while the other eats) or on really fussy nights, we'll tag team eating and taking care of her in another room.

It's also really hard b/c her bedtime routine starts at 7 and some nights DH isn't even home til after 6 so if she hasn't napped well in the afternoon (which is often the case), she's completely ready for her bedtime routine to start (and therefore NOT interested in sitting at the table).

But......I've found that the earlier we eat the better (of course, not always possible), and that *hopefully* just having her sitting with us at the table will get her used to it (eventually).

  • We're having a similar dilemma here. She is usually really good while I'm making dinner but as soon as we sit down, she starts fussing.  Doesn't matter if it takes me 15 minutes or an hour to make dinner!  I have her in her bouncy chair with some ring toys, and once we sit down, I either put her in the bumbo on the table or hold her (depending on what we're eating).  Last night I finally realized that spending an hour making dinner is not working, so going forward I'm either going to put someting in the oven from the freezer or wait until after she's in bed to have dinner.  It sucks but I'd rather spend my time with her than be in the kitchen.

  • The only thing that can occupy her long enough for us to eat is the jumperoo.  I'd actually be fine waiting until after she's in bed (8pm), but DH makes dinner sooner sometimes.  I also think it would be nice to get her used to sitting at the table with us, but we're not at that point yet.
