Eating habbits-is it just a phase?

DD will be 3 next month and she used to be a really good eater. We moved from the US to the UK Sept of last year so idk if that has something to do with it but if so we've been here nearly 8 months now I thought it would have gotten better if it were caused by the move. Anyway I can not get her to try any new food! She hardly eats veggies and fruit??? Does it really exist? The only thing shell eat is bananas. She has yogurts and spaghetti and shell eat chicken and fries (we do not let her eat those everyday but id still like to replace them with a healthier option). And as I'm now struggling to think of something else to add to the list I'm sure you see the problem. We try to give her healthy options and different varieties but she doesn't want to try anything new! I just don't know what to do.

I think that's a normal kid thing.  Food is something they can control.  That doesn't mean it's not annoying and concerning though.  I will be watching this post for ideas too.  My DS goes through phases as well.

  • DD used to be a great eater and now she'll skip dinner all together. She eats breakfast and lunch at Pre-school so I'm confident she's getting her nutrients even if she skips the vegis. A teacher told me about Adam & Eve's fruitable (fruit and vegetable) juice box she gives her child. I haven't tried it yet (I'm forgetful)-it's worth a shot!

  • My daughter is an incredibly picky eater. There's about 3 fruits she'll eat on a regular basis and she won't touch veggies. I've recently started giving her a multivitamin every day and on the weekends, I start her morning off with 8 ounces of one of the fruit/veggie Naked juices. I've really stopped fighting the food battle. It got to a point where if I put a new food on DD's plate, she'd refuse to eat the new food plus everything else on the plate, even if they were foods that she likes. Now, I give DD something I know she'll eat and I make sure to pile good food onto my plate. She's occasionally asked for a bite or two of something on my plate and I always give her whatever it is she wants to try. 9 times out of 10, she just spits it out, but I figure if we go on like this long enough, she'll eventually like more items.

I do plan on eventually working her out of all the picky eating, but not until she's older and preferred foods become more of a habit vs a control factor.

  • You have just described my son also. Lol. I try to make sure he eats the stuff he likes, that's good for him every day (bananas, yogurt). He also enjoys fruit pouches Nd I've been offering him all kinds of flavors. He devours them! Hoping it passes as much as you! GL

  • No advice, same boat. Very frustrating. As a baby DS would eat EVERYTHING. Now, the only veggie he will eat is carrots (and cucumber...) He is good with fruit: bananas, apples, strawberries, peaches, but will not eat ANY meats, and will not try anything new. If we go to a restaurant, he won't eat anyting on the kids menu but fries and pickles- not even grilled cheese...which every kid loves. I have tried sending him to bed without dinner if he refuses to eat, but he doesn't care....Sometimes I will let him have an apple or yogurt just so he has something in his belly. Hopefully this plase passes soon!
  • Well I feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one! Gah cs1007 you made me a little jealous...if only DD would eat cucumbers and bananas! Lol.
