So I had my first ultrasound Monday at 10w3d and the baby is measuring 2 days ahead. The heartbeat was 171 bmp. My question is, is there an old wives tale or anything about what the gender is based on the heartbeat?
Yes there is. I think it's below 140 it's a boy and over 140 it's a girl (I might have gotten the numbers wrong) but that's only actually true after the baby is born. At this stage, usually they all have around the same heart rate.
Can't believe the tale though...my first consistently had a heartbeat of 165 or higher and he turned out to be a boy. My sister also had the same thing happen with her third child. Sorry to burst the bubble.
I also heard if the baby has a high heartbeat it's a girl. However it is too early to tell. I am having a boy and his heartbeat went from 171 at around 10 weeks to 154 at around 12 weeks
