Hey gals... havent posted in a while.. happy birthday to all our toddlers!!

 

i need some advice. i originally named my son Monty Junior after my dad. we call him MJ but im starting to hate them name! i named him that to be nice because my dad really wanted it and my oldest son is named after my father  in law. but i really hate the name monty for a kid! i know its been a year but i would like to legally change his name to Markus James still keeping the (MJ) initials. these are names me n my DH love. but i dont want my dad to be crushed,.,but at the same time i want the name that i want!

 

what shud i do??

I wouldn't change it at this point, if I'm being honest. I think Monty is a fine name for a boy or a man, plus, I would never hurt my father that way after the fact.

Man, I hate to say it but i think you are stuck with Monty.  I don't think i could do that to my dad.  Plus, i love that name Monty.  If you are dead set on changing it, could you do Monty Markus James?  That way you can call him Markus if you want.   I just think it is way too late to change it now.

If you hate your kids name change it. Dont worry about your father, he should understand its your child and you will be calling him this name everyday. Technically speaking his parents named him and thats the name his parents ofcourse liked. Why dont you get a chance to name your child what you like. I think he will understand, maybe a bit hurt but he will get over it. Its your child not his.

Thanks! I think this is just what I wanted to hear but me and DH will talk over it and decide!

I don't think there's anything wrong with the name Monty, but if you hate it that much change it now while your LO is still very young.  Your father will get over it eventually.

I would not change it but I can't imagine hating my kids name either...

My cousin did this with her little one. We all called him CJ and he was named after his Dad.  Clifford John.  Well, his Dad went out for diapers one day and never came back. Seriously. So she changed his name to Christopher Jason. CJ is now 18 and I have no idea if he knows.  I have not thought of it until when I read your post. 

I say this to say it's been done. and the world did not end.

Or you could be Filipino and just call him Markus anyway. Haha. My name is Therese, but my entire family calls me Tricia. My dad's name is Aniceto, and his family calls him Butch. Don't know what it is with Filipinos and nicknames, but they, more than likely, have nothing to do with what you were actually named.
