Okay...I posted the other day about why I thought my baby wasn't sleeping due to reflux and reasons I thought that. Well I took her in and they switched her from Zantac to Prilosec. She had a dose last night and again this morning. How long did it take before you noticed a difference?? My DD can't sleep because her reflux has gotten so bad.
Re: Prilosec-how long to work?
With DD we tried Zantac suspension and it didn't work. Now with DS we tried Prilosec and it seemed to work for a while but then its like it just stopped working. I don't remember how long it too for the Prilosec to work, I'm sorry. Honestly it never worked consistently to manage his reflux so its hard to say. He wasn't gaining weight adequately and was refusing to eat so we switched to Prevacid SoluTabs (same thing that worked for DD too). The first full day of the Prevacid he was still a bear but the following day he was a happy guy.
If the Prilosec doesn't cut it, keep trying until you find something that does. Its so hard to see our LOs in pain and I'm so glad that I didn't give up when other meds didn't work. He would scream after only 2 oz. per feeding and only take 14-16 oz. daily. Now he'll put down 5.5-6 oz. per feeding and he's getting 4-5 bottles a day plus nursing once at night. All because of Prevacid!
My LO is on Prilosec and I don't think it's helping at all. He's spitting up just as much as ever, SOAKING 10+ outfits a day. I think he's still gaining (he has been), so there aren't too keen on changing his meds. I'm just going with it, since he's relatively happy. We tried taking him off and it seemed slightly worse, but both bad and worse are relatively the same, as far as his spitup goes.
Same here: started on Zantac, worked for 3 days maybe? and then the problems started again. My DD is on generic Prilosec. It took 2 weeks to work for her and a dosage adjustment .
I think it took so long because for the first week she was constantly spitting up her med right after I was giving it to her, but she seems good now.
