Already a MoM Plus Pregnant or Newborn - Check In

Hi girls!

1.  How's everyone feeling/adjusting?

2.  What do your kids understand so far about you being pregnant?  I know this will depend on age, but just wondering what everyone's kids are grasping right now.

2A.  How big are your newborns right now?  How does that compare to your multiples when they were at this point?

Hope everyone has a great week!

Re: Already a MoM Plus Pregnant or Newborn - Check In

  • 1.  I was feeling fine, until I started spotting again.  Sucketh.  Got it yesterday and still today.  Going in for an u/s at 3.  Hoping they can pinpoint where my placenta is residing and that it has something to do with that.  This sucks.   I was spotting for about a week during 14w and thought it was finally behind me.  I hate it.  I know that without cramping it can be NBD.  But I hate it.  HATE it.

    2.  If I ask what's in my belly both girls go "a baby!"  A couple weeks ago, A came up to me unprompted and kissed my belly and said "love you baby" - of course it sounded like "lah lew bebe."  Really sweet.  But they do keep lifting up my shirt wondering where the baby went and why they can't see it.

  • Feeling good. I think last week I just had a plugged duct because everything resolved without antibiotics. The boys both have colds and I am so worried about Micah getting it. So far so good but our house is filled with snot and coughing so hopefully nursing him and lots of Purell will keep him from getting sick.

2A. I'm answering this too because I thought it was funny that when I had a belly I would tell the boys that a baby was in my belly and his name was Micah. They would point to my belly and say baby or Micah. After he was born they stopped pointing to my belly. I think it is that my belly wasn't big anymore and they were distracted by a new baby in the house, by I like to think they understood that Micah was in there and came out.

2B. Micah was born at 39 weeks and was 8lb and they told me 22 3/4 inches. I was really surprised by the 22 3/4 inches because for a baby that is huge. At our pediatrician visit they said he was 21 inches which makes much more sense. But, how could you be almost 2 inches off? A half inch I get with a squirmy baby but almost 2 inches! Anyhow he lost a bit more than 10% at birth but is gaining it back now. About a week ago he was 7lbs 10oz. The boys were born at 37 1/2 weeks and were 6lb15oz and 5lb 15oz. They lost almost 10% but then gained and became chunky monkies really quickly.

  • Feeling great- tired, but recovery has been a breeze.

As for how we're all adjusting- honestly the baby is the easiest part this equation.

Friday was my first full day of all 3 on my own, and I admit I cried three times. It was raining outside, the twins were stir crazy and fighting, I needed to pump (the twins walk up to me, point & and say "boooobs" and then sign for milk while I'm pumping - thank god they're too young to remember any of this)) and the baby was crying to be fed. Add that with sleep deprivation, forgetting to eat, and I just about leapt into DH's arms when got home from work.

I do feel some guilt for not being as available to the twins. A few times, I've wondered if this would be easier if we had waited another 4-6 mos before adding #3 (but maybe not- jalaiaa?).

Overall, things are good. An one baby is SO fun- I get so much snuggle time with her, and the twins LOVE her (to the point of being dangerous:)

ETA: I take Ceci in tomorrow for a weight check- but I would guess she's 7 lbs on the money (She was 6 lbs 2oz when she left the NICU). Crazy to think the twins were so much smaller (by 2 lbs at birth) because she is soo tiny to me still!

As I read your post I was like, yep. yep. yep. My first day with all three was Sunday and it was a short day because I went to a women's retreat with Micah this weekend so the boys were with DHs parents all morning. I felt a little guilty about not being available for them, but more guilty because I was constantly yelling. I'm not a yeller normally but they boys both have colds and constantly trying to kiss Micah. I'd see a snotty nose going towards him and yell, "NO!" then feel immediately bad for yelling at my poor boys who don't feel well themselves and just want to love on their brother.  Hopefully they'll be better tomorrow, my first full day with them alone and it will be easier.

  • Jalaiaa - YES. I never raise my voice and found myself so beyond frustrated (and overtired) on Friday that I felt like that's ALL I was doing. Don't climb the entertainment system, no hitting, share your toy or momma takes it, please don't sit on the baby, no don't spit out your milk, sorry we can't go outside it's pouring rain, BE GENTLE, don't pick up the baby, don't hit the baby, don't stick your fingers in the baby's eye, don't dump your mac n cheese on the floor....sigh. I hear ya girl.

I hope they're feeling better tomorrow and you have a smooth day :) The snotty noses would stress me out too.

Amanda -  what the heck with all the spotting!? - I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. I hope everything is fine (I'm sure it is)!

My kids ended up getting exposed to so many things when they were little and they never got sick until they were after a year old, so try not to worry!  That BM is powerful stuff!

That's funny that the boys don't acknowledge that anything is in your stomach anymore - they must have made some kind of connection when they belly went away!

I'm sure you're going to feel some unique challenges because of the age of the twins.  I remember my doctor telling me that her first and second kids are 23 months apart, and her second and third are 27 months apart.  She said you wouldn't believe what a HUGE difference there was with widening the age gap by 4 months - specifically regarding the kids independence levels, interest in nursing (even though she'd weaned at 12 months), etc...  Hang in there!  Close age gaps are super fun though later on, so you'll get paid back.  :)

Yeah...it's really getting on my nerves, to say the least.  DH worked from home today so he could just run some reports and take calls while he played with the girls and I could get off my feet (they've been sick with fevers and A has threw up on Sunday and again yesterday) and rest.  Then my friend's coming over this afternoon while they're napping so DH can go with me to the u/s.

I'm assuming it's my placenta and that it's low lying, but we'll see.  I've been on pelvic rest since I spotted last time, which was.....13 weeks?  This morning I thought it was 14, but I need to go back and check when exactly it was.  I spotted around the same time with the twins, so I keep mixing it all up.

I'll keep you all posted.  I've had no cramping, so I'm not panicking....just frustrated and getting that pit in my stomach that I always get prior to an u/s.

  • 1. I'm feeling really good. This pregnancy has been such an emotional rollercoaster, with it being a total surprise, then finding out it was another set of twins, then losing one at 8 weeks, and now finally I'm feeling good and excited. We had our NT scan yesterday and everything looked great, which was nice to hear. The blood results when they come back, could possibly be skewed due to the deceased baby, but everything on the u/s looked perfect.

    2. We have not said anything to the girls yet. Like I said, this pregnancy has been so confusing for so long, that we are still trying to settle into everything ourselves. We'll probably tell them in a couple of weeks. I think that they will be really excited! :)

  • I feel like I'm always late to these check ins!

1 - Feeling great, just freaking ginormous.  I really don't think I was any smaller when I was at this point with the twins.  Now my only hope left is that I don't get AS huge towards the end.

2- The boys know to point to the belly when I say "where is the baby?"  and Alexander will very carefully kiss the baby if you ask him to.  He's in a huge affectionate phase right now which I'm loving.  Harry likes to lay his head on my huge belly and "snuggle".  I'd like to think they understand, but then they also pointed to dh's belly the other day and said BABY!  Which made him feel really really really good.

AW - Friday is V day - go me!

  • Hello all!  So glad to hear you gals with newborns are hanging in there!

Bummed to hear about the return of the spotting...I can't imagine how stressed I'd be!

    1.  Just had an OB appt this AM, and cervical length was a nice 3.8cms!   Started weekly progesterone injections last week and while I was nervous about the pain of the actual injection that wasn't bad at all!  DH did a great job, no lumps or bruises or even soreness the next day!  I have, however, been a little over-emotional and extremely exhausted in the afternoons, which had gone away as I was getting into 2nd tri.  Otherwise feeling pretty darn good physically!

    2.  Our kids have no idea what a baby is, more less that there is one in my tummy!  Not sure what they'll think when there is a new little person in the house!

  • Hey girls.

u/s didn't show anything obvious.  Placenta moved up (good news), cervix closed, no subchorionic hematomas, etc...

They were sending the results to my doctor so I expect to hear from her in the morning.  Everything looks good, it just might be one of those things.

I'm really happy everything looks good, just frustrated that it keeps happening.  But it may be something that I have to get used to....I know some women just spot during pregnancy and can till the end.  I'm just praying (again) that this is the last time.

  • I'm doing pretty good.  I'm still waiting for that 2nd tri burst of energy if there is such a thing.   Or maybe my toddler sucked it out of me.

My twins don't really understand me being pregnant.  They still try to climb all over me including my belly.

I'm getting a little nervous as to how I am going to handle everything.  My boys are starting to climb and jump off of things right now.  I feel like I am constantly pulling them off the furniture, etc.  How am I going to handle a new baby and keep my toddlers safe?

  • 1.  How's everyone feeling/adjusting? Feeling better than I did in the 1st tri! I'm trying to adjust to not being able to lay around or sleep whenever I want to like I did with my first pregnancy, but they keep me pretty busy so I don't really have time to mourn anyway. Pubic area is pretty sore, so I'm feeling some discomfort, but that's just the way it goes I guess!

    2.  What do your kids understand so far about you being pregnant?  I know this will depend on age, but just wondering what everyone's kids are grasping right now. They're 15 months so they don't understand anything. Sometimes I pick up their baby dolls and pretend I'm holding a baby and patting its back and they just take it away from me and think it's fun and games lol I'm not sure what they're going to understand when the baby gets here, probably won't even faze them since there's always been multiple babies around here!
